  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
    CAUTION
    After disconnecting the battery, wait for more than 1 minute for the SAS to deplete its stored energy.

  4.  
  5. Drain the cooling system into a clean container for reuse.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the heater hoses from the heater core.
  8.  
  9. Discharge and recover the air conditioning system refrigerant.
    NOTE
    Refer the exploded view illustration for component locations and if applicable, their retainer torque specifications.

  11. Remove the battery cover.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
    CAUTION
    If moisture or foreign material enters the refrigeration cycle, cooling ability will be lowered and abnormal noise or other malfunction could occur. Always plug open fittings immediately after removing any refrigeration cycle parts.

  15. To disconnect cooler pipe # 3, disconnect the block joint type pipes by grasping the female side of the block with pliers or similar tool and holding firmly, and then remove the connection bolt or nut.

  17. Disconnect the heater hose at the firewall.
  18.  
  19. Remove the console as follows:
    1. Remove the selector lever knob if equipped with an automatic transmission, or the shift lever knob if equipped with a manual transmission.
    2.  
    3. Remove the front cover.
    4.  
    5. Remove the rear cover.
    6.  
    7. Remove the hole cover.
    8.  
    9. Remove the parking brake lever boot and boot plate.
    10.  
    11. Remove the console.
    12.  
    13. Disconnect the power window main switch connector.
    14.  
    15. Remove the indicator compartment connector, if equipped with an automatic transmission.

  21. Remove the dumper clip.
  22.  
  23. Bend the stoppers inward, then remove.
  24.  
  25. Turn the glove compartment downward and pull the pins.
  26.  
  27. Remove the glove compartment.
    NOTE
    The side wall removal procedure is the same for the both sides.

  29. Pull the side wall rearward and detach clips A, B pins C and tab D.
  30.  
  31. Remove the side wall.

  33. Remove the console panel as follows:
    1. Remove the screws.
    2.  
    3. Pull the console panel outward and detach tabs A and pins B.
    4.  
    5. Disconnect the seat warmer switch connector, if equipped.
    6.  
    7. Disconnect the accessory socket connector.
    8.  
    9. Remove the console panel.

  35. Remove the center panel as follows:
    1. Pull the lower panel outward and detach clips A and tab B.
    2.  
    3. Turn the lower panel downward and remove the tabs C.
    4.  
    5. Remove the lower panel.
    6.  
    7. Remove the knee bolster.
    8.  
    9. Remove the bolt and screw.
    10.  
    11. Pull the center panel unit outward, detach clip A from the dashboard, and then remove the center panel unit.
      NOTE
      Verify that bolt has been removed when pulling the center panel unit outward. If the center panel unit is pulled with bolt installed, stress will be applied to the connectors inside the panel which may cause a malfunction. When removing the center panel unit, disconnect the audio unit connector (24-pin) first to aid in disconnecting other connectors and the antenna plug.

    13. Disconnect the connector and antenna feeder plug.

  37. Remove the column cover as follows:
    1. Remove the tab A, then remove the upper column cover.
    2.  
    3. Remove the screws, then remove the lower column cover.
    4.  
    5. Remove the ignition key illumination.

  39. Remove the drivers side air bag as follows:
    WARNING
    Handling the air bag module improperly can accidentally deploy the air bag module, which may seriously injure you.

    1. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
    2.  
    3. Remove the cover, and bolt.
    4.  
    5. Using a flathead screwdriver, pry out the connector stopper plate.
    6.  
    7. Disconnect the connector.
    8.  
    9. Remove the air bag.
    10.

  41. Remove the steering wheel as follows:
    WARNING
    Handling the air bag module improperly can accidentally deploy the air bag module, which may seriously injure you.

    1. Remove the locknut.
      CAUTION
      Do not try to remove the steering wheel by hitting the shaft with a hammer. The column will collapse.

    2.  
    3. Set the vehicle in the straight-ahead position.
    4.  
    5. Remove the steering wheel using a suitable puller.
    6.  
    7. Remove the column cover.
    8.  
    9. Remove the clock spring screw, connector and clock spring.
      NOTE
      For vehicles with DSC, if the negative battery cable or the steering angle sensor connector or ROOM 15 A fuse is disconnected, the stored initial position of the steering angle sensor will be cleared and the DSC will not operate properly, making the vehicle unsafe to drive. Perform the steering angle sensor initialization procedure after connecting the negative battery cable.

    11. Disconnect the combination switch connector.
    12.  
    13. Disconnect the steering angle sensor connector, on vehicles with DSC.
    14.  
    15. Remove the screws and then remove the combination switch.

  43. Remove the steering shaft.

  45. Pull the meter hood upward and detach clips A.
  46.  
  47. Remove the meter hood.

    1. Remove the screw.

    3. Remove the cluster by rotating it upwards.

    5. Remove clip A and the connector
    6.  
    7. Remove clip B by rotating it 90 degrees.
      NOTE
      Place the cluster with the display side facing up after removal.

  51. Pull the side panel outward and detach clips A.

  53. Pull the side panel rearward and detach tab B from the dashboard.

  57. Remove the hood release lever as follows:
    1. Disconnect the connector.
    2.  
    3. Remove the hood latch.
    4.  
    5. Pull the hood release lever.
    6.  
    7. While pushing the tab in the direction of the arrow using a tape-wrapped, small flathead screwdriver, detach it from the dashboard.
      NOTE
      Remove the hood release lever while taking care not to damage the hood release cable with the flathead screwdriver.

    8.  
    9. Remove the hood release cable.

  59. Remove the female bracket as follows:
    1. Remove the top lock lever cover.
    2.  
    3. Remove the top lock cover.
    4.  
    5. Remove the top lock.
    6.  
    7. Remove the male wedge cover.
    8.  
    9. Remove the male wedge.

    11. Remove the set plate.
    12.  
    13. Remove the slider.
    14.  
    15. Remove the weatherstrip.
    16.  
    17. Mark around the retainer installation screws with paint before removing them.
    18.  
    19. Remove the top fabric from the front bow retainer.
    20.  
    21. Pull out the top fabric from the front header.
    22.  
    23. Remove the covers.
    24.  
    25. Remove the cable installation rivet using a drill.
    26.  
    27. Remove the cables from the cable guide.
    28.  
    29. Remove the band installation rivet using a drill.
    30.  
    31. Remove the nut, then remove the cable end bracket.
    32.  
    33. Remove the rain rail assembly by removing the rivets from the top fabric using a drill.
    34.  
    35. Remove spring A by first loosening the bolt, then remove the spacers, spring and collars from the link.
    36.  
    37. Remove spring B by first loosening the bolt, then pull the link in the direction of the arrow to remove the spacer and spring.
    38.  
    39. Remove the striker, connector and the female wedge.

    41. After installing the female bracket, keep in mind the following:

    43. Degrease the rain rail using white gasoline.
    44.  
    45. Install the insulation tape to the rivet installation hole of the rain rail.
    46.  
    47. Secure the top fabric and rain rail with the rivet.
    48.  
    49. Flatten the stem using hammer.
    50.  
    51. Place the link onto the top fabric.
    52.  
    53. Align the link with the set plate installation hole of the top fabric, and install the top fabric to the front header.
    54.  
    55. Thread the cable into the cable guide.
    56.  
    57. Set the aluminum rivet to the riveter, and then secure the cable to the link with the rivet.
    58.  
    59. Install the covers.
    60.  
    61. Install the top fabric to the front bow.
    62.  
    63. Secure the top fabric to the front bow retainer using a rubber hammer.
    64.  
    65. Set the aluminum rivet to the riveter, and then secure the band to the link with the rivet. Install the cable end bracket. When installing the retainer assembly, install the retainers to the link, aligning the retainer marks with the retainer installation screws.

  61. Pull the A-pillar trim, then disengage clips A and B.

  63. Pull the A-pillar trim upward, then disengage tabs C from the body.

  65. Remove the A-pillar trim.

  67. Pull the scuff plate upward while detaching tabs C, and then detach clips A and D, and pins B (4), E (1) from the body, and remove the scuff plate.

    1. Disconnect the dashboard harness connectors.

    9. Disconnect the blower motor connector.
    10.  
    11. Disconnect the airflow mode actuator connector.

    13. Remove the nut.

    15. Remove the cover.

    17. Remove bolts A through D.

    19. Remove the dashboard.

    1. Remove the blower motor.

    3. Remove the power MOS FET.

    5. Remove the polyurethane foam 1 and 2.

    9. Remove the adhesive polyurethane.
    10.  
    11. Remove the air intake box.
    12.  
    13. Remove the air intake actuator.
    14.  
    15. Remove the air intake crank.
    16.  
    17. Remove the air intake door.

    19. Remove the harness.
    20.  
    21. Remove the air mix actuator.
    22.  
    23. Remove the heater core.

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal, please note the following:
    1. When replacing the instrument cluster of vehicles with the immobilizer system, perform immobilizer system component replacement/key addition and clearing, if equipped with advanced keyless system or the immobilizer system component replacement/key addition and clearing, if not equipped advanced keyless system .
    2.  
    3. When installing the steering shaft, do not apply a shock in the axial direction of the shaft. Lock the tilt lever. Tighten nut A then nut B and lastly bolt C.

    5. Make sure the wheels in the straight-ahead position, before installing the steering wheel.
    6.  
    7. After installing the combination switch, perform the steering angle sensor initialization procedure
      WARNING
      Unless the initialization procedure of the steering angle sensor is completed, the DSC will not operate, causing an unexpected accident. Therefore, always perform the initialization procedure to ensure DSC operation if the power supply to the steering angle sensor has been cut off due to disconnection of the steering angle sensor connector or negative battery cable, or any other cause.


      NOTE
      The initialization value of the steering angle sensor is stored using the battery power supply. Therefore, the battery power supply of the steering angle sensor is cut and the stored initialization value is cleared when any of the following items are performed.



      Negative battery cable disconnection
       
      Steering angle sensor connector disconnection
       
      Fuse (ROOM 15A) removal
       
      Wiring harness disconnection between battery and steering angle sensor connector
       
      Inspect the wheel alignment, inflation pressure, and the installation condition of the steering wheel
       
      If there is any malfunction, adjust the applicable part
       
      Connect the negative battery cable
       
      Turn the ignition switch to the ON position
       
      Confirm that the DSC indicator light illuminates and that the DSC OFF light flashes
       
      Turn the steering wheel to full right lock, then turn it to full left lock
       
      Confirm that the DSC OFF light goes out
       
      Turn the ignition switch off
       
      Turn the ignition switch to the ON position again, and confirm that the DSC indicator light goes out
       
      If the DSC indicator light does not go out, disconnect the negative battery cable, and perform the procedure again
       
      Drive the vehicle for about 10 minutes and confirm that the ABS warning and DSC indicator lights do not illuminate
       

    8.  
    9. If the initialization procedure of the steering angle signal is not completed, the DSC will not operate properly and may cause an accident. Therefore, always perform initialization of the DSC HU/CM steering angle signal to ensure proper DSC operation when any of the following items are performed.

      Steering angle sensor replacement DSC HU/CM replacement
       
      Inspect the wheel alignment and inflation pressure.
       
      Park the vehicle on level ground
       
      Turn the ignition switch off
       
      Connect the WDS or equivalent to the DLC-2
       
      Access the active command mode, select the following commands, and then follow the indication on the monitor
       
      Drive the vehicle forward
       
      After 5 min of driving, verify that the DSC system is normal
       

    10.  
    11. When installing the center panel unit, make sure that the wiring harness and antenna feeder are not caught between the unit and dashboard. If the wiring harness or the antenna feeder is caught between the unit and dashboard, it may cause malfunctions.
    12.  
    13. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
    14.  
    15. Verify that the air bag system warning light illuminates for approx. 6 seconds and goes out.
    16.  
    17. If the air bag system warning light does not operate normally, inspect the system.
    18.
