Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
    NOTE
    Refer the exploded view illustration for component locations and if applicable, their retainer torque specifications.

  2.  
  3. Disconnect the parking brake cable.
  4.  
  5. Remove the upper caliper bolt and pivot the caliper downwards.
  6.  
  7. Remove the disc pads and shims.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Clean the exposed area of the piston.
  2.  
  3. Rotate the piston clockwise slowly using the tool shown to push the piston completely until the piston grooves are in the position shown in the figure.
  4.  
  5. Install the components in the reverse order of removal. Tighten the caliper bolts to 20-25 Nm (14-18 ft. lbs.).
  6.  
  7. Install the parking brake cable. After installation the parking brake cable, verify that the operating lever returns to the stopper nut with the parking brake lever released.
  8.  
  9. Depress the brake pedal a few times and verify that the brakes do not drag
  10.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Wheels
     
    Parking brake cable clip
     
    Upper caliper bolt and rotate the caliper downwards
     
    V-springs, pads and the shims from the pads
     

  4.  

To install:

  1. Press the rear caliper pistons back into their bores using tool 49 FA18 602.
  2.  
  3. Install or connect the following:

    Pads, shims, and springs
     
    Caliper and torque the bolt to 27-36 ft. lbs. (37-49 Nm) on Mazda6models, or 16-23 ft. lbs. (21-31 Nm) on Mazdaspeed6 models
     
    Wheels
