  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.
  3. Turn all vehicle accessories OFF.
  4.
  5. Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
  6.
  7. At the central junction box (SJB), located below the left side of the instrument panel, remove the cover and the restraints control module (RCM) fuse(s) from the SJB. See the Owner-s Manual.
  8.
  9. Turn the ignition ON and visually monitor the air bag indicator for at least 30 seconds. The air bag indicator will remain lit continuously (no flashing) if the correct RCM fuse has been removed. If the air bag indicator does not remain lit continuously, remove the correct RCM fuse before proceeding.
  10.
  11. Turn the ignition OFF.
    CAUTION
To avoid accidental deployment and possible personal injury, the backup power supply must be depleted before repairing or replacing any front or side air bag supplemental restraint system (SRS) components and before servicing, replacing, adjusting or striking components near the front or side air bag sensors, such as doors, instrument panel, console, door latches, strikers, seats and hood latches.

  12.

The front impact severity sensor is located on the radiator support bracket.

The first row side impact sensors (if equipped) are located at or near the base of the B-pillars.

The second row side impact sensors (if equipped) are located on the C-pillar.

NOTE
To deplete the backup power supply energy, disconnect the battery ground cable and wait at least one minute. Be sure to disconnect auxiliary batteries and power supplies (if equipped).

  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable and wait at least one minute.
  2.

CAUTION
The Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) system must be disarmed before performing service around SIR system components or SIR system wiring. Failure to do so may cause accidental deployment of the air bag, resulting in unnecessary SIR system repairs and/or personal injury.

The positive battery cable must be disconnected for a minimum of 1 minute before beginning any air bag work to de-energize the back-up power supply. It is a good idea to disengage both the positive and negative battery cables to ensure that the Air Bag system is definitely discharged.
