Removal & Installation



  1. Pull down the adjusting lever of the tilt steering wheel and push the steering wheel down.
  2.  
  3. Remove the meter hood.
  4.  
  5. Pull down the selector lever to the D range position.
  6.  
  7. Remove the instrument cluster mounting screws and disconnect the electrical connectors, then remove the cluster from the vehicle.
    WARNING
    When removing the instrument cluster, in order to prevent damage to the lens, cover the steering shaft with a cloth.

  9. Remove the console lower cover and remove the dashboard lower panel.
  10.  
  11. Place the steering wheel in the straight-ahead position and turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
  12.  
  13. Remove the steering wheel-to-air bag module bolts.
  14.  
  15. Disconnect the clock spring connector(s).
  16.  
  17. Carefully, lift the air bag module from the steering wheel.
  18.  
  19. Remove the steering wheel-to-column nut and, using a steering wheel puller, press the steering wheel from the steering column.
  20.  
  21. Remove the steering column cover.
  22.  
  23. Remove the clock spring assembly.
  24.  
  25. Remove the combination switch.
  26.  
  27. Remove the clip and disconnect the selector cable from the selector lever.
  28.  
  29. Remove the selector lever.
  30.  
  31. Remove the column lower panel.
  32.  
  33. Remove the steering column-to-instrument panel bolts and lower the steering column.
  34.  
  35. Turn the seaming welt over at the right and left A-pillar trim.
  36.  
  37. Disengage the clips in the top portion of the A-pillar trim.
  38.  
  39. Pull the A-pillar trim upward, then disengage the bottom and lower hooks, then remove the right and left A-pillar trim.
  40.  
  41. Remove each side panel.
  42.  
  43. Remove the front scuff plates.
  44.  
  45. Turn the seaming welt over.
  46.  
  47. Pull the front side trim toward you, then disengage clip and pin from the body, and remove the right and left front side trim.
  48.  
  49. Disconnect the antenna plug.
  50.  
  51. For vehicles equipped with the wire-type climate control unit, disconnect the wires for the front A/C unit and disconnect the air mix and airflow mode wires from each wire clamp and link.

  53. After removing the screws, pull the front climate control unit out and disconnect the connectors, then remove the front climate control unit.

To install:

  1. To install the instrument panel, install or connect the following:

  3. Using an assistant, carefully, install the instrument panel.
  4.  
  5. Connect the thermosensor electrical connector to the front A/C unit.
  6.  
  7. Connect any remaining electrical connectors to the dashboard and/or front A/C unit.
  8.  
  9. Install the instrument panel mounting bolts.
  10.  
  11. Install the front climate control unit into position and engage the connectors.
  12.  
  13. For vehicles equipped with the wire-type climate control unit, connect the wires to the front A/C unit and connect the air mix and airflow mode wires to each wire clamp and link.
  14.  
  15. Connect the antenna plug.
  16.  
  17. Install the right and left front side trim.
  18.  
  19. Install the right and left side panels.
  20.  
  21. Install the right and left A-pillar trim.
  22.  
  23. Install the steering column and the steering column-to-instrument panel bolts. Torque the bolts to 12-16 ft. lbs. (16-22 Nm).

  25. Install the column lower panel.
  26.  
  27. Install the selector lever.
  28.  
  29. Install the combination switch.
  30.  
  31. Install the clock spring assembly.
  32.  
  33. Install the steering column cover.
  34.  
  35. Install the steering wheel and the steering wheel-to-column nut. Torque the steering wheel nut to 29-36 ft. lbs. (40-49 Nm).
  36.  
  37. Carefully, install the air bag module to the steering wheel.
  38.  
  39. Connect the clock spring connector(s).
  40.  
  41. Install the steering wheel-to-air bag module bolts. Torque the bolts to 79-112 inch lbs. (8.9-12.7 Nm).

  43. Install the console lower cover and dashboard lower panel.
  44.  
  45. Install the instrument cluster and the meter hood.
  46.  
  47. Carefully, install the passenger-side air bag module and connect the electrical connector(s).
  48.  
  49. Install the passenger-side air bag module mounting bolts. Torque the bolts to 61-85 inch lbs. (7-9 Nm).
  50.  
  51. Install the glove compartment by sliding it to the right; then, push it downward to install the clip and bend the door stoppers inward to engage.
