Upper Control Arms

Bushing Replacement



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Position the control arm into a vise. Cut away the projecting rubber from the bushing. Use tools 49 B0636 165A, 49 B0001 797 and 49 H032 312 to remove the bushing.
  4.

  1. Apply soapy water to the new control arm bushing.
  2.  
  3. Install the rear bushing using and tool 49 D034 202.
  4.  

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Front wheel
     
    Brake caliper and wire aside
     
    Brake rotor
     
    Stabilizer bar nut
     
    Lower shock mounting bolt and nut
     
    Upper arm ball joint
     

  4.  
  5. Remove the front upper arm bolts, push down on the lower arm and remove the upper arm through the lower shock and lower arm gap.
  6.  

To install:

  1. Install the upper control arm.
  2.  
  3. Loosely tighten the bolt and nut.
  4.  
  5. Loosely install the lower strut mounting bolt.

    Upper arm ball joint. Torque the nut 42-53 ft. lbs. (56-72 Nm).
     
    Wheel
     

  6.  
  7. Torque upper control arm bolt to 62-72 ft. lbs. (84-98 Nm) and the lower strut mounting bolt to 58-76 ft. lbs. (78-103 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Check and/or adjust the front wheel alignment.
  10.
