Removal & Installation
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Place the ignition switch in the LOCK position.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
    CAUTION
    After disconnecting the battery, wait for more than 1 minute for the SAS to deplete its stored energy.

  6.  
  7. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Center console upper panel
     
    Ash tray panel
     
    Cigar lighter connector
     
    Ash tray light
     
    Storage compartment
     
    Front and rear center consoles
     
    Console under cover
     
    Glove box
     
    Lower scuff plate
     
    Lower door side trim plate
     
    Lower dashboard side panel
     
    Lower dashboard front panel
     
    Steering column upper cover
     
    Ignition key light
     
    Steering column lower cover
     

  8.  
  9. At the driver-s side, remove the SAS module and the steering wheel by removing or disconnecting the following:

    Place the wheel in the straight-ahead position and turn the ignition switch to LOCK
     
    Cover clips at both sides of the steering wheel
     
    Steering wheel-to-SAS module bolts
     
    SAS module from the steering wheel and disconnect the electrical connector
     
    Steering wheel-to-column nut
     
    Steering wheel from the steering column using a suitable puller
     
    Steering column mounting bolts and lower the column
     
    Both A pillar trims
     
    Instrument panel-to-chassis fasteners in the order shown
     
    Instrument panel with the help of an assistant

  10.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Instrument panel and tighten the fasteners as shown
     
    Both A pillar trims
     
    Raise the steering column and tighten the bolts to 14 ft. lbs. (19 Nm)
     
    Steering wheel to steering column
     
    Steering wheel-to-column nut and tighten to 33 ft. lbs. (45 Nm)
     
    SAS module to the steering wheel and connect the electrical connector
     
    Steering wheel-to-SAS module bolts and tighten to 70-103 inch lbs. (8-12 Nm)
     
    Cover clips at both sides of the steering wheel
     
    Steering column lower cover
     
    Ignition key light
     
    Steering column upper cover
     
    Lower dashboard front panel
     
    Lower dashboard side panel
     
    Lower door side trim plate
     
    Lower scuff plate
     
    Glove box
     
    Console under cover
     
    Front and rear center consoles
     
    Storage compartment
     
    Ash tray light
     
    Cigar lighter connector
     
    Ash tray panel
     
    Center console upper panel
     

  2.  
  3. Connect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. On models with dynamic suspension, perform the steering angle sensor initialization procedure.
  6.  
  7. Operate the engine to normal operating temperatures, then, check the climate control operation and check for leaks.
