Removal & Installation




CAUTION
Note the location and orientation of the clutch push rod retainer. If any damage to the retainer occurs during removal or installation, replace the retainer clip. The retainer must be correctly installed during assembly.

  1. Disconnect the clutch master cylinder rod from the clutch pedal.
  2.  
  3. Remove the clutch pedal bracket nut.
  4.

CAUTION
Brake fluid contains polyglycol ethers and polyglycols. Avoid contact with eyes. Wash hands thoroughly after handling. If brake fluid contacts eyes, flush eyes with running water for 15 minutes. Get medical attention if irritation persists. If taken internally, drink water and induce vomiting. Get medical attention immediately. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.


CAUTION
Brake fluid is harmful to painted and plastic surfaces. If brake fluid is spilled onto a painted or plastic surface, wash it immediately with water.

  1. Disconnect the clutch master cylinder hose from the clutch master cylinder and plug it to prevent excess fluid loss.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the clutch slave cylinder tube from the clutch master cylinder.
  4.  
  5. Remove the clutch master cylinder nut.
  6.  
  7. Remove the clutch master cylinder.
  8.  
  9. To install, reverse the removal procedure. Make sure that the push rod retainer is correctly positioned. Observe the following torques:

    Clutch pedal bracket nut: 17 ft. lbs. (23 Nm).
     
    Slave cylinder tube-to-master cylinder: 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm).
     
    Master cylinder mounting nuts: 17 ft. lbs. (23 Nm).

  11. Bleed the air from the system.

WARNING
Brake fluid is harmful to painted and plastic surfaces. If brake fluid is spilled onto a painted or plastic surface, wash it immediately with water.


NOTE
If removing the clutch line, remove the engine air cleaner.


NOTE
If removing the clutch slave cylinder or the clutch slave cylinder-to-clutch line adapter, remove the transaxle.

  1. Remove the clutch master cylinder hose
  2.  
  3. Remove the clutch master cylinder push rod
  4.  
  5. Remove the fitting at the master cylinder.
  6.  
  7. Remove the clutch master cylinder
  8.  


WARNING
Make sure the O-rings are properly positioned on the hydraulic line fittings or leaks may occur.

  1. To install, reverse the removal procedure. Torque the mounting nuts to 17 ft. lbs. (23 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Fill and bleed the system.
  4.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the clutch master cylinder rod from the clutch pedal.
  6.  
  7. Remove the clutch pedal bracket nut.
    WARNING

  10.  
  11. Disconnect the clutch slave cylinder tube from the clutch master cylinder.
  12.  
  13. Remove the clutch master cylinder nut.
  14.  
  15. Remove the clutch master cylinder.
  16.  
  17. To install, reverse the removal procedure. Torque all fasteners to specification.
  18.  
  19. Bleed the air from the system.
  20.
