Parking Brake Shoes

The rear drum brake shoes serve as the parking brakes. Refer to the procedures under Rear Drum Brakes.

Adjustment



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  4.  
  5. Remove the wheel and tire assembly.
    NOTE
    Make sure the parking brake is fully released.

  6.  
  7. Using the release handle, release the parking brake control.
  8.  
  9. Remove the rear brake disc.

  11. Using the special tool, measure the inside diameter of the drum portion of the rear brake disc and set the locking screw. Record the measurement.
  12.  
  13. Place the special tool over the widest diameter of the parking brake shoes.

  15. Adjust the parking brake shoe clearance to 1.07 mm (0.04 in) less than the inside diameter of the drum portion of the rear brake disc. Rotate the parking brake shoe adjuster to achieve the correct parking brake shoe-to-brake disc clearance.

  17. Install the rear brake disc.
  18.  
  19. Test the parking brake for normal operation.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.

  3. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  4.  
  5. Remove the wheel and tire assembly.
  6.  
  7. Remove the rear brake disc.
  8.  
  9. Remove the parking brake shoe upper return spring.
  10.  
  11. Remove the 2 parking brake shoe retaining pins.
  12.  
  13. Remove the 2 parking brake shoe retaining springs.
  14.  
  15. Remove the parking brake shoe lower return spring.
  16.  
  17. Remove the parking brake shoe adjuster.
  18.  
  19. Remove the parking brake shoes.
  20.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.

    Using anti-seize lubricant, lubricate the parking brake shoe contact points before installation of the rear parking brake shoes.
     
    Lubricate the adjust screw threads with anti-seize lubricant.
     
    Adjust the parking brake shoe and lining.
     
    Check the parking brake for normal operation.
