    Adjustment



    1. Remove the brake drum.
    2.  
    3. Using the special tool 206-0002, measure the inside diameter of the brake drum.
    4.  
    5. Install a new brake drum if the inside diameter exceeds the specification stamped on the outside face of the brake drum.
    6.  
    7. Using the special tool 206-0002, measure the inside diameter of the brake drum by placing the special tool at the widest point of the rear brake shoes.
    8.  
    9. Adjust the diameter of the brake shoes by turning the adjuster screw until the brake shoes just contact the special tool.
    10.  
    11. Install the brake drum.

    Removal & Installation



    1. Remove the brake drum.
    2.  
    3. Use the Brake/Clutch/Service Vacuum to remove brake dust and dirt from the brake assemblies.
    4.  


    NOTE
    If new rear brake shoes and linings are being installed, resurface the brake drums to remove glazing and to ensure an equal friction surface from side-to-side. Resurfacing will also correct out-of-round and bell conditions.

    1. Using the special tool, measure the braking surface diameter. If the inside diameter measures more than the maximum specification shown on the outside of the brake drum, install a new brake drum.

    3. Remove the parking brake cable from the parking brake cable lever.
    4.  
    5. Remove the hold-down clips and pins.
    6.  
    7. Remove the lower spring.
    8.  
    9. Remove the rear brake shoes.
    10.  
    11. Pull the bottom of the brake shoe forward.
    12.  
    13. Release the upper return spring.
    14.  
    15. Remove both brake shoes together.
    16.  
    17. Remove the self adjuster lever.
    18.  
    19. Remove the self adjuster and spring assembly.
    20.  
    21. Return the self adjuster to the fully seated position.
    22.  
    23. Remove the parking brake lever.
    24.  
    25. Remove the horseshoe clip.
    26.  
    27. Remove the parking brake lever.
    28.  
    29. Inspect the rear brake shoes for minimum thickness above the backing plate, and install new as necessary.
    30.  
    31. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

    1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
    2.  
    3. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
    4.  
    5. Remove the wheel and tire assembly.
    6.  
    7. Remove the brake drum.
    8.  
    9. Use the Brake/Clutch/Service Vacuum to remove brake dust and dirt from the brake assemblies.
      NOTE

    27. Remove the self adjuster lever.

    29. Remove the self adjuster and spring assembly.
    30.  
    31. Return the self adjuster to the fully seated position.

    33. Remove the parking brake lever.
    34.  
    35. Remove the horseshoe clip.
    36.  
    37. Remove the parking brake lever.
    38.  
    39. Inspect the rear brake shoes for minimum thickness above the backing plate, and install new as necessary.
    40.  
    41. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
