Removal & Installation



  1. Remove the wheel and tire.
  2.  


NOTE
It may be necessary to hold the ball joint stud to keep it from turning while removing the nut.

  1. Separate the upper arm from the wheel knuckle. Remove the upper ball joint nut.
  2.  
  3. Remove the upper arm inner bolt.
  4.  
  5. Remove the upper arm.
  6.  
  7. To install, reverse the removal procedure. Observe the following torques:

    Ball joint nut: 76 ft. lbs. (103 Nm)
     
    Lower arm bolts: 85 ft. lbs. (115 Nm)

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Wheel and install 1 lug nut to retain the brake drum
     
    Brake line from the wheel cylinder
     
    Brake line bracket
     
    Bolts from the Antilock Braking System (ABS) sensor bracket and move the sensor aside, if equipped
     
    Rear knuckle and loosen the inside upper and lower arm bolts
     
    Shock absorber lower nut
     
    Spring
     

  4.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Spring to the shock absorber
     
    Lower shock absorber nut. Torque the nut to 85 ft. lbs. (115 Nm).
     
    Inside upper and lower arm bolts. Torque the bolts to 85 ft. lbs. (115 Nm).
     
    ABS sensor bracket, if equipped. Torque the bolts to 80 inch lbs. (9 Nm).
     
    Brake line bracket. Torque the bolt to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
     
    Brake line to the wheel cylinder. Torque the fastener to 11 ft. lbs. (15 Nm) and remove the lug nut
     
    Wheel
     
    Negative battery cable
     

  2.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  4.  
  5. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
    NOTE
    It may be necessary to hold the ball joint stud to keep it from turning while removing the nut.

  7. Separate the upper arm from the wheel knuckle. Remove the upper ball joint nut.
  8.  
  9. Remove the upper arm inner bolt.
  10.  
  11. Remove the upper arm.
  12.  
  13. To install, reverse the removal procedure. Observe the following torques:

    Ball joint nut: 76 ft. lbs. (103 Nm)
     
    Lower arm bolts: 85 ft. lbs. (115 Nm)
