Mazdas built to be sold in California in 1972 and 1973 have an air filter for the air pump. The air pump is used for purposes of emission control; more information on the air pump system can be found in Emission Controls . The filter must be replaced at 24,000 mile intervals.

  1. Remove the wing nut holding the filter housing cover in place.
  3. Remove the cover. Remove the old filter and discard it.
  5. Install the new filter and install the cover. Replace the wing nut and tighten it securely.
