Power Steering Pump

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

  1. Raise and support the front end on jackstands.
  2.  
  3. Remove the power steering pump pulley nut.
  4.  
  5. Loosen the drive belt tensioner pulley and remove the belt.
  6.  
  7. Remove the pulley from the pump.
  8.  
  9. Position a drain pan under the pump and disconnect the hoses.
  10.  
  11. Remove the bracket-to-pump bolts and remove the pump from the truck.
  12.  
  13. Installation is the reverse of removal. Adjust the belt to give 1 / 2 " deflection along its longest straight run. Bleed the system.

BLEEDING THE SYSTEM



  1. Raise and support the front end on jackstands.
  2.  
  3. Check the fluid level and fill it, if necessary.
  4.  
  5. Start the engine and let it idle. Turn the steering wheel lock-to-lock, several times. Recheck the fluid level.
  6.  
  7. Lower the truck to the ground.
  8.  
  9. With the engine idling, turn the wheel lock-to-lock several times again. If noise is heard in the fluid lines, air is present.
  10.  
  11. Put the wheels in the straight ahead position and shut off the engine.
  12.  
  13. Check the fluid level. If it is higher than when you last checked it, air is in the system. Repeat Step 5. Keep repeating Step 5 until no air is present.
