Crankshaft Pulley (Vibration Damper)

REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION



See Figures 1, 2 and 3

  1. Remove the fan shroud, as required.
  2.  
  3. On those engines with a separate pulley, remove the retaining bolts and separate the pulley from the vibration damper.

  1. Remove the vibration damper/pulley retaining bolt from the crankshaft end.
  2.  
  3. Using a puller, remove the damper/pulley from the crankshaft.
  4.  
  5. Upon installation, align the key slot of the pulley hub to the crankshaft key. Complete the assembly in the reverse order of removal. Tighten the crankshaft pulley/damper retaining bolt(s) to the following specifications:

    4.0L engine: 30-37 ft. lbs. (30-50 Nm), plus an additional 80-90°
     
    3.0L engine: 116-123 ft. lbs. (158-167 Nm)
     
    2.6L engine (1987-88):80-94 ft. lbs. (109-128 Nm)
     
    2.6L engine (1989-93): 145 ft. lbs. (197 Nm)
     
    2.2L engine: 9-13 ft. lbs. (12-18 Nm)
