REMOVAL & INSTALLATION



B Series Pickup
  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle. Remove the wheel and tire assembly.
  2.  
  3. Remove the drive flange hub.
  4.  
  5. Remove the caliper, mounting support and knuckle arm. Support the caliper aside with rope or mechanics wire; do not let the caliper hang by the brake hose.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the stabilizer bar and the tie rod end.
  8.  
  9. Remove the lower mount of the shock absorber.
  10.  
  11. Remove the snapring and spacer.
  12.  
  13. Support the lower control arm with a jack.
  14.  
  15. Disconnect the upper and lower ball joints and the knuckle.
  16.  
  17. Lower the lower control arm and remove the knuckle assembly.
  18.  
  19. Remove the splash shield.
  20.  
  21. Using a suitable prybar, pry out the halfshaft from the differential and remove the halfshaft from the vehicle. Be careful not to damage the dust cover or oil seal.
  22.  

To install:
  1. Install a new clip on the halfshaft. Coat the differential seal with clean transmission fluid.
  2.  
  3. Install the halfshaft in the differential, being careful not to damage the seal. After installation, attempt to pull the halfshaft outward to make sure it does not come out.
  4.  
  5. Install the knuckle and hub to the halfshaft and ball joints. Install the spacer and a new snapring.
  6.  
  7. Install the remaining components in the reverse of removal.
  8.

  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle. Remove the wheel and tire assembly.
  2.  
  3. Remove and discard the halfshaft locknut.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the tie rod end from the knuckle.
  6.  
  7. Remove the caliper and brake rotor from the knuckle. Support the caliper aside with rope or mechanics wire; do not let it hang by the brake hose.
  8.  
  9. Remove the nut and bolts and remove the lower ball joint. Remove the bolts and nuts and remove the knuckle/hub assembly from the strut.
  10.  

If the halfshaft is stuck to the hub, install a used locknut so it is flush with the end of the shaft, then tap the nut with a soft mallet.

  1. Remove the splash shield.
  2.  
  3. Using a suitable prybar, pry out the halfshaft from the differential and remove the halfshaft from the vehicle. Be careful not to damage the dust cover or oil seal.
  4.  

To install:
  1. Install a new clip on the halfshaft. Coat the differential seal with clean transmission fluid.
  2.  
  3. Install the halfshaft in the differential, being careful not to damage the seal. After installation, attempt to pull the halfshaft outward to make sure it does not come out.
  4.  
  5. Install the knuckle/hub assembly to the strut and tighten the nuts to 69-86 ft. lbs. (93-117 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install the remaining components in the reverse of removal.
  8.
