REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

Pickups and MPV
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.
  3. Shift the transmission into Neutral. Remove the gearshift lever knob and transfer case selector lever knob (if equipped). The knob unscrews from the shift lever.
  4.
  5. Remove the console or boot retainer mounting screws. Remove the console and/or boot assembly. Slide it up and over the shift lever. If the shift lever is equipped with a 4WD indicator, disconnect the wiring connector after raising the boot assembly to gain working room.
  6.
  7. Make sure the shift lever is in Neutral, remove the shift lever to transmission mounting bolts and lift the assembly up and away from the transmission.
  8.
  9. Install the shift lever and secure the mounting bolts to:

    B2200-69-95 inch lbs. (7.8-11 Nm)

    B2600 - 25-37 ft. lbs. (34-50 Nm.)

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.

Do not remove the shift ball, unless the shift ball or boot is to be replaced. Otherwise, remove the shift ball, boot and lever as an assembly.

  1. Remove the plastic shift pattern insert from the shift ball.
  2.
  3. Heat the shift ball to 140-180°F (60-82°C), using a heat gun.
  4.
  5. Position a block of wood beneath the shift ball and carefully hammer the ball from the lever. Be careful not to damage the finish on the shift lever.
  6.
  7. Place the gearshift lever in N position.
  8.
  9. Remove the rubber boot retainer screws.
  10.
  11. Remove the shift lever-to-extension housing/transfer case adapter housing retaining bolts. Pull the gearshift lever straight up and away from the gearshift lever retainer.
  12.

To install:
  1. Prior to installing the shift lever, lubricate the shift lever ball stud, using C1AZ-19590-B (ESA-M1C75-B) or equivalent.
  2.
  3. Fit the shift lever into place and install the retaining bolts. Tighten and torque the retaining bolts 20-27 ft. lbs. (28-36 Nm).
  4.
  5. Install the rubber boot and retaining screws.
  6.
  7. If the shift ball was removed, heat the shift ball to 140°-180°F (60°-82°C), using a heat gun. Tap the ball onto the shift lever, using a suitable size (11mm will work) socket and mallet.
  8.
  9. Place the shift lever in N position. Then, align the shift pattern plastic insert with the vehicle centerline and install it to the shift ball.
