Brake Caliper

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Wheels
     
    Brake pad wear sensor
     
    Hydraulic line at the caliper, then remove the caliper from the carrier. Make sure to hold the pin with a back-up wrench when removing the caliper bolts.
     



    Caliper from the hydraulic line, loosen only
     

  4.  
  5. The carrier can be removed by removing the 2 bolts.
  6.

To install:

  1. If removed, install the carrier. Torque the bolts to 85 ft. lbs. (115 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Thread the caliper onto the hydraulic line and hand-tighten it. Fit the caliper into place on the carrier.
  4.  
  5. Torque the guide pin bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Tighten the hydraulic line and bleed the brakes.
  8.

  5. The carrier can be removed by removing the 2 bolts.

To install:

  1. If removed, install the carrier. Torque the bolts to 85 ft. lbs. (115 Nm).

  5. Torque the guide pin bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).

  7. Tighten the hydraulic line and bleed the brakes.

Floating Caliper
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the wheels.
  4.  
  5. Loosen the hydraulic line at the caliper, then remove the caliper from the carrier. Be sure to hold the pin with a back-up wrench when removing the caliper bolts.
  6.  
  7. Remove the caliper from the hydraulic line.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Thread the caliper onto the hydraulic line and hand-tighten it. Fit the caliper into place on the carrier.
  2.  
  3. Torque the bolts to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Using new washers, tighten the hydraulic line bolt to 24 ft. lbs. (33 Nm), and bleed the brakes.
  6.
