Removal & Installation

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Properly relieve the fuel system pressure.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Cover box
     
    Gas cap
     
    Fuel pump cover
     
    Pressure hoses
     
    Fuel filter
     

  6.  
  7. Remove the connecting plug from the old filter and install it on a new filter using a new gasket.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Fuel filter
     
    Attaching screws
     
    Pressure hoses
     
    Fuel pump cover
     
    Gas cap
     
    Cover box and check for proper sealing
     

  2.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Relieve the fuel system pressure.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     

  6.  
  7. Relieve the pressure in the fuel tank by opening, then tightening the filler cap.

    Left rear wheel
     
    Plastic inner fender liner
     

  8.  


NOTE
The fuel lines must not be kinked.



Fuel pipes from the fuel filter, by compressing the locking catches
 
Breather hose from the filter assembly
 
Filter securing clip
 
Filter/pressure regulator
 

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    New fuel filter/pressure regulator into the housing and tighten the securing clip to 27 inch lbs. (3 Nm)
     
    Breather hose to the filter assembly
     
    Fuel lines to the filter assembly
     
    Plastic inner fender liner
     
    Left rear wheel and tighten the lug bolts to 110 ft. lbs. (150 Nm)
     
    Negative battery cable
     

  2.  
  3. Read fault memory, encode the radio and normalize the power windows.
  4.  
  5. Start the vehicle and check for leaks.
  6.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2.  
  3. Properly relieve the fuel system pressure.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Cover box
     
    Gas cap
     
    Fuel pump cover
     
    Pressure hoses
     
    Fuel filter
     

  6.  
  7. Remove the connecting plug from the old filter and install it on a new filter using a new gasket.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Fuel filter
     
    Attaching screws
     
    Pressure hoses
     
    Fuel pump cover
     
    Gas cap
     
    Cover box and check for proper sealing
     

  2.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.

  3. Properly relieve the fuel system pressure.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Cover box
     
    Gas cap
     
    Fuel pump cover
     
    Pressure hoses
     
    Fuel filter
     

  6.  
  7. Remove the connecting plug from the old filter and install it on a new filter using a new gasket.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Fuel filter
     
    Attaching screws
     
    Pressure hoses
     
    Fuel pump cover
     
    Gas cap
     
    Cover box and check for proper sealing
     

  2.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Properly relieve the fuel system pressure.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Cover box
     
    Gas cap
     
    Fuel pump cover
     
    Pressure hoses
     
    Fuel filter
     

  6.  
  7. Remove the connecting plug from the old filter and install it on a new filter using a new gasket.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Fuel filter
     
    Attaching screws
     
    Pressure hoses
     
    Fuel pump cover
     
    Gas cap
     
    Cover box and check for proper sealing

  2.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Relieve the fuel system pressure.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  6.  
  7. Empty the fuel tank into a suitable container.
  8.  
  9. Remove the rear seat cushion.
  10.  
  11. Lift the carpeting to gain access to the fuel pump and filter covers.
    NOTE
    The fuel filter assembly is located under the driver-s side cover.

  12.  
  13. Remove or disconnect the following:
    NOTE
    Be sure not to kink the fuel pipes.



    Fuel filter cover
     
    Fuel filter electrical connector
     



    Supply and return fuel pipes clips and the pipes
     
    Union nut mounting the fuel pump-to-the tank
     
    Fuel filter from the tank
     

  14.  

To install:


NOTE
Lightly oil the fuel pump sealing O-ring to simplify the installation.

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Fuel filter into the tank using a new union nut and O-ring. Tighten the union nut to 59 ft. lbs. (80 Nm).
     
    Supply and return lines
     
    Fuel filter electrical connector
     
    Fuel filter access cover and the rear seat
     

  2.  
  3. Fill the fuel tank.

    Negative battery cable
     

  4.  
  5. Read fault memory, encode the radio and normalize the power windows.
  6.  
  7. Start the vehicle and check for leaks.
  8.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
    NOTE
    The roof must be closed in order to access the fuel tank assembly.

  2.  
  3. Empty the fuel tank.
  4.  
  5. Remove the top of the fuel tank cover.
  6.  
  7. Remove the insulation mat, then detach the electrical connection.
  8.  
  9. Unscrew the nuts, remove the ring, then remove the fuel filter. Separate the connections, then remove the filter from the vehicle.
  10.  
  11. Installation is the reverse of removal. Use a new sealing ring. Tighten the filter flange nuts until just snug.
