M111 Engine



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the engine coolant.
  4.  
  5. Detach the hoses from the thermostat housing.
  6.  
  7. Detach the air pipe bracket from the housing.
  8.  
  9. Remove the bolts securing the thermostat housing, then remove it from the engine.
    NOTE
    The thermostat cannot be separated from the housing and should not be reused. Replacement thermostats include a new housing.

  11. Installation is the reverse of removal. Tighten the thermostat housing bolts until just snug.

M112 And M113 Engines



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the engine coolant.
  4.  
  5. Detach the cooling hose from the thermostat housing.
  6.  
  7. Remove the bolts securing the thermostat housing, then remove it and the thermostat from the engine.
  8.  
  9. Installation is the reverse of removal. Tighten the thermostat housing bolts to 10 ft. lbs. (14 Nm) on M112 engines and 7 ft. lbs. (10 Nm) on M1113 engines.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the engine coolant.
  4.  
  5. Detach the hoses from the thermostat housing.
  6.  
  7. Remove the bolts securing the thermostat housing, then remove it from the engine.
  8.  
  9. Remove the thermostat from the cylinder head.
  10.  
  11. Installation is the reverse of removal. Use a new O-ring. Tighten the thermostat housing bolts to 80 inch lbs. (9 Nm).

M272 Engine



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the engine coolant.
  4.  
  5. Remove the air duct and engine cover.
  6.  
  7. Detach the hoses from the thermostat housing.
  8.  
  9. Loosen, but do not remove the guide pulley bolt.
  10.  
  11. Remove the accessory drive belt, then remove the guide pulley.
  12.  
  13. Detacht he electrical connection from the thermostat housing.
  14.  
  15. Remove the bolts securing the thermostat housing, then remove it from the engine.
    NOTE
    The thermostat cannot be separated from the housing. Replacement thermostats include a new housing.

  17. Installation is the reverse of removal. Use new O-rings. Tighten the thermostat housing bolts to 10 ft. lbs. (14 Nm) and the pulley bolt to 24 ft. lbs. (32 Nm).
