Steering Knuckle

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. While the vehicle is on the ground, loosen the wheel hub nut.
  4.  
  5. Raise and safely support the vehicle. Remove the front wheel.
  6.  
  7. Remove the wheel hub nut. Discard it as a new one must be used during installation.
  8.  
  9. Unclip the cables for the wheel speed sensor and brake lining wear sensor.
  10.  
  11. Remove the brake disc.
  12.  
  13. Remove the speed sensor.
  14.  
  15. Remove the nut from the tie rod, then separate the tie rod from the steering knuckle.
  16.  
  17. Remove the nut from the upper control arm, then separate the control arm from the steering knuckle.
  18.  
  19. Remove the nut from the lower control arm, then separate the control arm from the steering knuckle.
  20.  
  21. Press the front axle shaft from the flange, then remove the steering knuckle from the vehicle.
  22.  
  23. Installtion is the reverse of removal. Use new hardware. Tighten the nuts and bolts until just seated. When the vehicle is lowered, tighten the bolts to the following:

    Upper control arm nut: 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm)
     
    Lower control arm nut: 63 ft. lbs. (85 Nm)
     
    Tie rod nut: 42 ft. lbs. (55 Nm)
     
    Wheel hub nut: 361 ft. lbs. (490 Nm)

  25. Perform a wheel alignment.
