Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Engine undercover
     
    Bracket from control arm
     
    Mounting bracket (21b)
     
    Torsion bar

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Torsion bar
     
    Torque the bracket bolts as follows:
     
    Mounting bracket (21b): 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm)
     
    Control arm bracket: 50 ft. lbs. (68 Nm)
     
    Engine undercover

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Measure the front suspension height. This can be done by measuring from the center of the wheel hub to the lip of the fender. Record the result.
  4.  
  5. Raise and safely support the front of the vehicle.
  6.  
  7. Remove the front wheel.
  8.  
  9. Mesure the torsion bar spring preload using a caliper gauge. Insert the end of the gauge into the bore at 16a (refer to the illustration). Record the result.
  10.  
  11. Unscrew bolt 16c to release the spring tension.
  12.  
  13. Remove the bolt 16f in profile sleeve 16e, then slide back the profile sleeve.
  14.  
  15. Remove the torsion bar spring.
  16.  
  17. Loosen bolt 16h and remove end cover 16g.
  18.  
  19. Remove the torsion bar spring from the clamping lever 16d.
  20.  
  21. Installtion is the reverse of removal. Note the following:

    Be sure to regrease bolt 16c and fill the rubber bellows with grease
     
    Regrease the splines and be sure the match the marks of the clamping lever and torsion bar when reassembling
     
    Tighten bolts 16h and 16f to 17 ft. lbs. (23 Nm)
     
    After reassembly, tighten bolt 16c until the same preload measurement recorded during removal is reached. The suspension height should be the same as before removal
     
    Perform a wheel alignment
