Removal & Installation

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. On ML430 models, remove the air deflector from underneath the radiator.
  4.  
  5. Drain the engine coolant.
  6.  
  7. Remove the engine fan and shroud.
  8.  
  9. Remove the both headlamps as follows:
    1. Unclip then remove the plastic trim piece under the headlamp.
    2.  
    3. Remove the 2 nuts and bolt securing the headlamp.
    4.  
    5. Carefully detach the unit from the fender, then pull it away and detach the electrical connection.

  11. Remove the bolts securing the radiator crossmember, then remove it from the vehicle.
  12.  
  13. Detach the cooling hoses from the radiator.
  14.  
  15. Detach the power steering and transmission cooler lines from the radiator. Plug then to prevent fluid loss and contamination.

  17. Remove the air conditioning condenser cooling fan assembly from the front of the radiator.
  18.  
  19. Remove the bolts securing the condenser to the radiator; do not disconnect the lines.
  20.  
  21. Remove the fasteners and rubber dampers from between the radiator and condenser.
  22.  
  23. Detach the air conditioning reservoir from the side of the radiator and set it aside.
  24.  
  25. Remove the radiator form the vehicle. Be careful not to spill any remaining coolant in it.
  26.  
  27. Installation is the reverse of removal. Fill the engine with coolant and check the automatic transmission and power steering fluid levels. Start the engine and check for leaks.
