Removal & Installation



Lower
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove the wheel.
  6.  
  7. Remove the lower nut from the shock absorber.
  8.  
  9. Detach the rear stabilizer from the control arm.
  10.  
  11. Remove the bolts securing the control arm from the rear axle carrier.
  12.  
  13. Remove the nut securing the ball joint to the control arm, then remove the arm from the vehicle.
  14.  
  15. Installtion is the reverse of removal. Use new hardware. Tighten the nuts and bolts until just seated. When the vehicle is lowered, tighten the bolts to the following:

    Control arm nut to axle carrier: 100 ft. lbs. (135 Nm)
     
    Lower control arm to ball joint: 92 ft. lbs. (125 Nm)
     
    Stabilizer bar link: 21 ft. lbs. (28 Nm)
     
    Lower shock absorber nut: 63 ft. lbs. (85 Nm)

Track Rod
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove the wheel.
  6.  
  7. If equipped with automatic leveling headlights, detach the sensor linkage from the track rod.
  8.  
  9. Remove the nut from the track bar ball joint, then press the joint out of the wheel carrier.
  10.  
  11. Mark the position of the eccentric cam on the axle carrier, then remove the bolt from the track rod. Remove the rod from the vehicle.
  12.  
  13. Installtion is the reverse of removal. Use new hardware. Tighten the nuts and bolts until just seated. When the vehicle is lowered, tighten the bolts to the following:

    Track rod to axle carrier: 74 ft. lbs. (100 Nm)
     
    Track rod ball joint nut: 41 ft. lbs. (55 Nm)

  14.  

Upper
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle. Remove the rear wheel, spare wheel and spare wheel carrier.
  4.  
  5. Remove the wheel speed sensor.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the shock absorber from the frame.
  8.  
  9. Remove the upper ball joint nut and press the joint from the carrier.
  10.  
  11. Detach the lower control arm from the axle carrier.
  12.  
  13. Remove the nuts securing the upper control arm to the frame.
  14.  
  15. Pull out the bolts from the upper control arm while pressing down on the lower control arm. This will allow the bolts to pass over the top of the spring strut. Remove the upper arm from the vehicle.
  16.  
  17. Installtion is the reverse of removal. Use new hardware. Tighten the nuts and bolts until just seated. When the vehicle is lowered, tighten the bolts to the following:

    Lower control arm nut to axle carrier: 100 ft. lbs. (135 Nm)
     
    Upper control arm ball joint nut: 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm)
     
    Upper control arm to frame: 89 ft. lbs. (120 Nm)
     
    Shock absorber to frame nut: 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm)
     

  18.  
  19. Perform an alignment check.
