REMOVAL & INSTALLATION All Models

  1. Remove the cylinder head.
  2.
  3. Clean the valve guide with a brush, knocking away all loose carbon and oil deposits.
  4.
  5. Knock out the old valve guide with a drift.
  6.

To install:
  1. Check the bore in the cylinder head and clean up any rough spots. Use a reamer for this purpose. If necessary, the valve guide bore can be reamed for oversize valve guides.
  2.
  3. Clean the basic bores for the valve guides.
  4.
  5. Heat the cylinder head in water to approximately 176-194-F.
  6.
  7. If possible, cool the valve guides slightly.
  8.
  9. Drive the valve guides into the bores with a drift. Coat the bores in the cylinder head with wax prior to installation and be sure that the circlip rests against the cylinder head.
  10.
  11. Let the head cool and try to knock the valve guide out with light hammer blows and a plastic drift. If the guide can be knocked out, try another guide with a tighter fit.
  12.
  13. Install the cylinder head.
  14.
