REMOVAL & INSTALLATION 190D and 190E Models



  1. Raise the rear of the vehicle and support it with jackstands. Remove the wheel.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the holding clamps for the spring link cover and then remove the cover.
  4.  
  5. Install a spring compressor and compress the spring until the spring link is free of all load.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the lower end of the shock absorber.
  8.  
  9. Increase the tension on the spring compressor and remove the spring.
  10.  
  11. Installation is in the reverse order of removal. Please note the following:
    1. Position the spring so that the end of the lower coil is seated in the impression of the spring seat and the upper coil seats properly in the rubber mount in the frame floor.
    2.  
    3. Do not release tension on the spring compressor until the lower end of the shock absorber is connected and tightened to 47 ft. lbs. (65 Nm).

  1. Jack up the rear of the car.
  2.  
  3. Remove the rear shock absorber.
  4.  
  5. With a floor jack, raise the control arm to approximately a horizontal position. Install a spring compressor to aid in this operation.
  6.  
  7. Carefully lower the jack until the control arm contacts the stop on the rear axle support.
  8.  
  9. Remove the spring and spring compressor with great care.
  10.  
  11. Installation is the reverse of removal. For ease of installation, attach the rubber seats to the springs with masking tape.

  1. Jack and support the rear of the car and the trailing arm.
  2.  
  3. Remove the rear shock absorber.
  4.  
  5. Be sure that the upper shock absorber attachment is released first.
  6.  
  7. Compress the spring with a spring compressor.
  8.  
  9. Remove the rear spring with the rubber mount.
  10.  
  11. Installation is the reverse of removal. When installing the shock absorber, tighten the lower mount first.
