    Fuel Pressure Testing

    Print

    CAUTION
Observe all applicable safety precautions when working around fuel. Whenever servicing the fuel system, always work in a well ventilated area. Do not allow fuel spray or vapors to come in contact with a spark or open flame. Keep a dry chemical fire extinguisher near the work area. Always keep fuel in a container specifically designed for fuel storage; also, always properly seal fuel containers to avoid the possibility of fire or explosion.

    1. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Please refer to Relieving Fuel System Pressure for the procedure.
    2.
    3. Install an in-line fuel pressure gauge between the in-line fuel filter and the engine.
    4.
    5. Without starting the engine, turn the ignition switch on.
    6.
    7. Observe the fuel pressure gauge. The reading should be 40-43 psi (275.8-296.5 kPa).
    8.
    9. Start the engine and observe the gauge. The reading should be 36-38 psi (248.2-262.0 kPa).
    10.
    11. If there is no fuel pressure or the pressure is low, check the inertia fuel shutoff switch, fuel lines and hoses, in-line fuel filter, fuel pump, and the fuel pressure regulator. If the fuel pressure is high, check the fuel pressure regulator and fuel return line.
