Wheel Speed Sensors

Removal & Installation



Front
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Raise and safely support the front of the vehicle securely on jackstands.
  4.  
  5. Remove the front wheel.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the front wheel speed sensor electrical connector.
  8.  
  9. Remove the retaining bolt.
  10.  
  11. Remove the front wheel speed sensor from the steering knuckle.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Install the front wheel speed sensor to the steering knuckle.
  2.  
  3. Make sure that the front wheel speed sensor is properly aligned and lays flat against the bosses on the knuckle.
  4.  
  5. Install the retaining bolt and tighten to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Connect the front wheel speed sensor electrical connector.
  8.  
  9. Install the front wheel.
  10.  
  11. Lower the vehicle.
  12.  
  13. Perform the Diagnostic System Check - ABS.
  14.  
  15. Connect the negative battery cable.
  16.  

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the wheelhousing.
    NOTE
    The wheel speed sensor is serviceable only as an assembly. Do NOT attempt to service the sensor harness pigtail.

  4.  
  5. Disconnect the wheel speed sensor electrical connector.
  6.  
  7. Remove the nut and clips retaining the wheel speed sensor pigtail harness.
  8.  
  9. Remove the wheel speed sensor retaining bolt and remove the wheel speed sensor from the steering knuckle.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Install the wheel speed sensor to the steering knuckle. Tighten the front wheel speed sensor bolt to 69 inch lbs. (8 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Connect the wheel speed wiring harness to the vehicle. Secure with nut and clips and tighten to 48 inch lbs (5.5 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Connect the wheel speed sensor electrical connector.
  6.  
  7. Install the wheelhousing.
  8.  
  9. Perform the Diagnostic System Check - ABS.
  10.  
  11. Connect the negative battery cable.
  12.  

Rear
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Raise and safely support the front of the vehicle securely on jackstands.
  4.  
  5. Remove the rear wheel.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the rear wheel speed sensor electrical connector.
  8.  
  9. Remove the retaining bolt.
  10.  
  11. Remove the rear wheel speed sensor from the rear suspension knuckle.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Install the rear wheel speed sensor to the rear suspension knuckle.
  2.  
  3. Install the retaining bolt and tighten to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Connect the rear wheel speed sensor electrical connector.
  6.  
  7. Install the rear wheel.
  8.  
  9. Lower the vehicle.
  10.  
  11. Perform the Diagnostic System Check - ABS.
  12.  
  13. Connect the negative battery cable.
  14.  

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the rear seat bottom and seat back.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the electrical connector from the wheel speed sensor.
  6.  
  7. Raise and safely support the rear of the vehicle securely on jackstands.
  8.  
  9. Pull the pigtail harness for the wheel speed sensor out through body. Remove the grommet.
  10.  
  11. Remove the bolt which retains the wheel speed sensor pigtail harness to the vehicle.
  12.  
  13. Remove the wheel speed sensor retaining bolt and remove the wheel speed sensor from suspension knuckle.

To install:

  1. Install the wheel speed sensor (2) to steering knuckle and tighten the rear wheel speed sensor bolt to 69 inch lbs. (8 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Install the pigtail harness for the rear wheel speed sensor to the vehicle. Secure with 2 nuts and 2 clips and tighten the nuts to 48 inch lbs. (5.5 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Reposition the wheel speed pigtail harness through the body. Install the grommet.
  6.  
  7. Lower the vehicle.
  8.  
  9. Connect the wheel speed sensor electrical connector.
  10.  
  11. Install the rear seat bottom and seat back.
  12.  
  13. Perform the Diagnostic System Check - ABS.
  14.  
  15. Connect the negative battery cable.
  16.
