Removal & Installation



1.3L Engine
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:
    NOTE
    The intake and exhaust rocker arm shafts are NOT the same. Both can be distinguished by looking at the ends of the shafts, which are different. Install the intake rocker arm shaft with the stepped end toward the distributor side.



    Both battery cables
     
    Battery
     
    Rocker arm cover
     
    Timing belt
     
    Camshaft sprocket
     
    Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor
     
    Camshaft
     
    Rocker shaft retaining bolts. Lift out the exhaust and intake rocker arm shafts, with the springs and rocker arms attached.
     
    If necessary, remove the rocker arms, washers and springs from the rocker shafts. Note the order in which the components are removed; they must be re-assembled in the same order and position.

To install:

  1. If disassembled earlier, assemble the springs, washers and rocker arms on to the rocker shafts.
  2.  
  3. Install or connect the following:

    Lubricate the rocker arms and shafts with clean engine oil. Position the intake and exhaust rocker arm shafts in their original positions and torque the bolts, in the correct sequence, to 97 inch lbs. (11 Nm).
     
    Camshaft
     
    CMP sensor and torque the bolts to 97 inch lbs. (11 Nm)
     
    Camshaft sprocket and torque the bolt to 43 ft. lbs. (60 Nm)
     
    Timing belt
     
    Rocker arm cover and torque the bolts to 44 inch lbs. (5 Nm)
     
    Battery
     
    Both battery cables
