Disassembly & Assembly

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable

    Rear wheel

    Strut

  4.
  5. Mount a strut compressor tool into a holding fixture and install the strut using an adapter.
  6.
  7. Compress the coil spring.
  8.
  9. Remove or disconnect the following:

Strut rod piston nut and carefully release the compressed spring

    Strut from the compressor tool

Strut cap, nuts, insulator and coil spring

  10.

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:
    CAUTION
Do not over compress the spring. Excess overloading may result in tool failure and could result in bodily injury.

Coil spring, insulator nuts and strut cap

Mount the strut into a compressor tool and compress the coil spring

Strut rod piston nut and torque it to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm)

Release the coil spring and remove the compressor tool

    Strut

    Rear wheel

    Negative battery cable

  2.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions section.
  2.
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable

    Front wheel

    Strut

  4.
  5. Mount a strut compressor tool into a holding fixture and install the strut using an adapter.
  6.
  7. Compress the coil spring.
  8.
  9. Remove or disconnect the following:

  10.

To install:

  1. Install coil spring, insulator nuts and strut cap.
  2.
  3. Mount the strut into a compressor tool and compress the coil spring.
    CAUTION
Do not over compress the spring. Excess overloading may result in tool failure and could result in bodily injury.

  4.
  5. Install the strut rod piston nut and torque it to 34 ft. lbs. (47 Nm).
  6.
  7. Release the coil spring and remove the compressor tool.
  8.
  9. Install the strut.
  10.
  11. Install the front wheel.
  12.
  13. Connect the negative battery cable.
  14.

The coil spring is a separate unit from the strut unit and therefore the strut cannot be overhauled/disassembled.
