Throttle Body

Removal & Installation



  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the air inlet duct.
  4.  
  5. Remove the Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) breather hose.
  6.  
  7. Remove the Throttle Position (TP) sensor connector.
  8.  
  9. Rotate the throttle lever and disconnect the accelerator cable and the throttle valve cable, if equipped.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the electrical connector from the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve.
  12.  
  13. Drain the cooling system.
  14.  
  15. Remove the 2 coolant hoses from the throttle body.
  16.  
  17. Remove the accelerator cable bracket and throttle body bolt.
  18.  
  19. Remove the 2 throttle body fasteners.
  20.  
  21. Remove the throttle body and the gasket from the intake manifold.
  22.  
  23. Clean any remaining throttle body gasket from the intake manifold.

To install:

  1. Install a new throttle body gasket.
  2.  
  3. Install the throttle body onto the intake manifold with the 2 nuts.
  4.  
  5. Install the accelerator cable bracket and the 3 fasteners to the throttle body.
  6.  
  7. Reposition the throttle body and tighten the 3 throttle body fasteners to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Connect the 2 coolant hoses to the throttle body.
  10.  
  11. Connect the PCV hose.
  12.  
  13. Connect the IAC valve electrical connector.
  14.  
  15. Connect the TP sensor electrical connector.
  16.  
  17. Install the air inlet duct.
  18.  
  19. Refill the cooling system.
  20.  
  21. Connect the negative battery cable.
  22.  

1.0L Engine
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Relieve the fuel system pressure.
  4.  
  5. Drain the engine coolant system.
  6.  
  7. Remove the air cleaner (ACL) from the throttle body fuel injection (TBI) unit.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the Throttle Position (TP) sensor electrical connector.
  10.  
  11. Disconnect the fuel injector electrical connector.
  12.  
  13. Disconnect the idle speed control (ISC) motor electrical connector.
  14.  
  15. Disconnect the one clamp and the fuel feed hose from the TBI unit.
  16.  
  17. Disconnect the one clamp and the fuel return hose from the TBI unit.
  18.  
  19. Disconnect the vacuum hoses from the TBI unit.
  20.  
  21. Disconnect the two engine coolant hoses from the TBI unit.
  22.  
  23. Loosen the accelerator cable locknut.
  24.  
  25. Rotate the throttle lever to the wide open position.
  26.  
  27. Remove the cable end from the slot in the throttle lever. Remove the accelerator cable from the cable bracket.
  28.  
  29. Remove the four bolts and the TBI unit.

To install:

  1. Install the new gasket onto the early fuel evaporation (EFE) heater.
  2.  
  3. Install the TBI unit to the EFE heater and install and tighten the TBI unit bolts to 17 ft. lbs. (23 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the accelerator cable to the cable bracket.
  6.  
  7. Rotate the throttle lever to the wide open position.
  8.  
  9. Install the cable end into the slot on the throttle lever.
  10.  
  11. Connect the vacuum hoses to the TBI unit.
  12.  
  13. Connect the two engine coolant hoses to the TBI unit.
  14.  
  15. Connect the fuel return hose to the TBI unit and secure with the clamp.
  16.  
  17. Connect the fuel feed hose to the TBI unit and secure with the clamp.
  18.  
  19. Connect the ISC motor electrical connector.
  20.  
  21. Connect the fuel injector electrical connector.
  22.  
  23. Connect the TP sensor electrical connector.
  24.  
  25. Fill the engine coolant system to the proper level.
  26.  
  27. Connect the negative battery cable.
  28.  
  29. Turn ON the ignition in order to pressurize the fuel system.
  30.  
  31. Turn OFF the ignition.
  32.  
  33. Check for fuel leaks.
  34.  

1.3L Engine
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Drain the engine coolant.
  4.  
  5. Remove the bolt and the air inlet duct resonator from the intake plenum.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the breather hose from the valve cover.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the air inlet duct from the throttle body.
  10.  
  11. Rotate the throttle lever to the wide open throttle position.
  12.  
  13. Remove the accelerator cable end from the slot in the throttle lever.
  14.  
  15. Disconnect the IAC valve electrical connector.
  16.  
  17. Disconnect the TP sensor electrical connector.
  18.  
  19. Disconnect the 2 coolant hoses from the IAC valve coolant fittings.
  20.  
  21. Remove the 2 nuts and the 2 bolts that attach the throttle body to the intake plenum.
  22.  
  23. Remove the throttle body and the gasket.

To install:

  1. Install the throttle body and a new gasket to the intake plenum.
  2.  
  3. Secure the throttle body with the bolts and with the nuts. Tighten the bolts and the nuts to 13.5-17 ft. lbs. (18-23 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Connect the 2 coolant hoses to the IAC valve coolant fittings.
  6.  
  7. Connect the IAC valve electrical connector.
  8.  
  9. Connect the TP sensor electrical connector.
  10.  
  11. Rotate the throttle lever to the wide open throttle position.
  12.  
  13. Install the accelerator cable end into the slot in the throttle lever.
  14.  
  15. Connect the air inlet duct to the throttle body, and secure the duct with the clamp.
  16.  
  17. Connect the breather hose to the valve cover.
  18.  
  19. Install the air inlet duct resonator to the intake plenum, and secure the duct with the bolt.
  20.  
  21. Refill the cooling system.
  22.  
  23. Connect the negative battery cable.
  24.
