Bleeding

  1. Remove the reservoir cap.
  2.  
  3. Inspect the brake fluid level. Add fluid, if necessary.
  4.  
  5. Attach the power steering bleeding adapter to the hand-held vacuum pump.
  6.  
  7. Place the power steering bleeding adapter on the reservoir filler neck.
  8.  
  9. Apply a vacuum of 20 in Hg maximum.
  10.  
  11. Wait 5 minutes. Typical vacuum drop is 2-3 in Hg. If the vacuum does not remain steady, it means there is a leak in the system.
  12.  
  13. Remove the power steering bleeding adapter and hand-held vacuum pump.
  14.  
  15. Reinstall the pump reservoir cap.
  16.  
  17. START the engine. Allow the engine to idle.
  18.  
  19. Turn OFF the engine.
  20.  
  21. Inspect the fluid level. Add fluid, if necessary.
  22.  
  23. START the engine. Allow the engine to idle.
  24.  
  25. Raise and safely support the front of the vehicle securely on jackstands. Ensure the front tires and wheels are in the straight ahead position.
  26.  
  27. Do not turn the steering wheel to lock, but turn the steering wheel 360 degrees in both directions 5 times.
  28.  
  29. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
  30.  
  31. Remove the reservoir cap. Inspect the fluid level. Add fluid, if necessary.
  32.  
  33. Attach the power steering bleeding adapter to the hand-held vacuum pump.
  34.  
  35. Place the power steering bleeding adapter on the reservoir filler neck.
  36.  
  37. Apply a vacuum of 20 in Hg maximum and wait 5 minutes.
  38.  
  39. Remove the power steering bleeding adapter and hand-held vacuum pump.
  40.  
  41. Inspect the fluid level. Add fluid, if necessary.
  42.  
  43. Install the reservoir cap.
  44.  
  45. Lower the vehicle.
