Removal & Installation

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the bolt that retains the high pressure hose to the core support.
  4.  
  5. Separate the high pressure hose from the high pressure pipe at the core support.
  6.  
  7. Loosen the hose clamp and the return hose from the reservoir.
  8.  
  9. Disconnect the PSP switch connector.
  10.  
  11. Raise and safely support the front of the vehicle securely on jackstands.
  12.  
  13. Remove the power steering pump drive belt.
  14.  
  15. If the vehicle has A/C, remove the 3 bolts and the A/C compressor from the mounting bracket and hang the A/C compressor off to the side.
  16.  
  17. Remove the 4 bolts that retain the mounting bracket to the engine.
  18.  
  19. Remove the power steering hose and the bracket, with the pump attached, from the engine compartment.
  20.  
  21. Remove the 3 bolts and the power steering pump from the mounting bracket.
  22.  
  23. Remove the nut, lock washer and high pressure hose from the power steering pump.
  24.  
  25. Remove the hose clamp and the return hose from the pump.

To install:

  1. Secure the return hose to the pump with the hose clamp.
  2.  
  3. Secure the high pressure hose (13) to the pump with the lock washer and with the nut. Tighten the nut to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Secure the power steering pump to the mounting bracket with the 3 bolts and tighten to 25 ft. lbs. (35 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install the mounting bracket to the engine. Secure the mounting bracket to the engine with the 4 bolts and tighten to 63.7-68.6 ft. lbs. (46.8-50.4 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Install the A/C compressor to the mounting bracket. Secure the A/C compressor to the mounting bracket with the 3 bolts and tighten them to 16.5-20.1 ft. lbs. (22.5-27.4 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Install the power steering pump drive belt.
  12.  
  13. Lower the vehicle.
  14.  
  15. Unplug the power steering pipes and the power steering hoses.
  16.  
  17. Connect the PSP switch connector to the pump.
  18.  
  19. Install the return hose to the reservoir. Secure the hose to the reservoir with the hose clamp.
  20.  
  21. Secure the high pressure hose to the core support with the bolt. Do not tighten the bolt completely.
  22.  
  23. Install the high pressure hose to the high pressure pipe from the steering gear. Secure the hose to the pipe with the flare nut and tighten the flare nut to 30 ft. lbs. (40 Nm). Tighten the bolt that retains the high pressure hose to the core support to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).

  25. Fill the power steering fluid reservoir (15) with new power steering fluid.
  26.  
  27. Bleed the power steering system.
  28.  
  29. Connect the negative battery cable.
  30.  

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Siphon the power steering fluid from the reservoir.
  4.  
  5. Remove the serpentine drive belt.
  6.  
  7. Remove the power steering gear inlet hose fitting and the power steering gear inlet pipe/hose from the pump.
  8.  
  9. Loosen the power steering fluid reservoir outlet hose clamp.
  10.  
  11. Remove the power steering fluid reservoir outlet hose from the pump.
  12.  
  13. Raise and safely support the front of the vehicle securely on jackstands.
  14.  
  15. Remove the RH front tire and wheel.
  16.  
  17. Remove the RH lower engine splash shield.
  18.  
  19. Loosen and remove the 2 power steering pump bolts and 2 power steering pump nuts. Remove the power steering pump and pulley
  20.  
  21. Secure the power steering pump and pulley in a soft jawed vise.
  22.  
  23. Remove the pulley nut and the pulley from the power steering pump.
  24.  

To install:

  1. Secure the power steering pump in a soft jawed vise.
  2.  
  3. Install the pulley to the power steering pump. Secure with the nut and tighten to 32 ft. lbs. (43 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the power steering pump. Secure with 2 power steering pump bolts and 2 power steering pump nuts and tighten to 27 ft. lbs. (37 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Install the RH lower engine splash shield and tighten the 6 bolts to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Install the RH front tire and wheel assembly.
  10.  
  11. Lower the vehicle.
    NOTE
    The inlet and outlet hoses must not be twisted during installation. Do not bend or distort the inlet or outlet hoses to make installation easier. Failure to follow these procedures could result in component damage.

  13. Install the power steering fluid reservoir outlet hose to the pump. Secure with the hose clamp.
  14.  
  15. Install the power steering gear inlet pipe/hose to the pump. Secure with the power steering gear inlet hose fitting and tighten the fitting to 40 ft. lbs. (54 Nm).
  16.  
  17. Install the serpentine drive belt.
  18.  
  19. Fill the power steering fluid reservoir with new power steering fluid.
  20.  
  21. Bleed the power steering system.
  22.  
  23. Connect the negative battery cable.
  24.
