Removal & Installation

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Drain the engine cooling system to a level below that of the thermostat housing.
  4.  
  5. For a 1.3L engine, release the hose clamp in order to remove the upper radiator hose at the thermostat housing cap.
  6.  
  7. For a 1.0L engine, release the hose clamp in order to remove the upper radiator hose at the thermostat housing cap.
  8.  
  9. Remove the two retaining bolts in order to remove the water outlet from the housing.
  10.  
  11. Remove the thermostat and the gasket from the thermostat housing.

To install:

  1. Install the thermostat and the new gasket to the housing.
  2.  
  3. Install the water outlet to the housing.
  4.  
  5. For a 1.3L engine, secure the hose with a hose clamp.
  6.  
  7. Secure the water outlet to the housing with two retaining bolts and tighten to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Install the upper radiator hose to the thermostat cap.
  10.  
  11. Secure the hose with a hose clamp, for a 1.0L engine.
  12.  
  13. Refill the engine cooling system.
  14.  
  15. Connect the negative battery cable.
  16.  

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Drain the cooling system.
  4.  
  5. Remove the 2 thermostat housing retaining nuts and thermostat housing from the cylinder block.
  6.  
  7. Remove the thermostat and O-ring seal from the thermostat housing.
  8.  
  9. Clean the thermostat housing of any corrosion or debris.
  10.  
  11. Clean the cylinder block mating surfaces.

To install:

  1. Install the thermostat with the air bleed valve facing upward.
  2.  
  3. Install a new thermostat O-ring seal.
