Precaution

Specific to:

Mazda Miata 1990-1997

  2.
  3. Before preforming any arc welding on the vehicle, disconnect the Electronic Brake Control Module.
  4.
  5. When placing the vehicle in a paint drying oven, do not expose the Electronic Brake Control Module to temperatures in excess of 185°F (85°C) for longer than 2 hrs.
  6.
  7. Never disconnect or connect Electronic Brake Control Module or its components connectors with the ignition switch ON .
  8.
  9. Never disassemble any component of the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) which is designated non-serviceable; the component must be replaced as a unit.

Relieving Anti-Lock Brake System Pressure

Specific to:

Mazda Miata 1990-1997

CAUTION
The Anti-Lock Brake System pressure must be properly relieved and the system disabled before loosening any hydraulic fitting. The system is capable of generating fluid pressure high enough to penetrate skin, which could be fatal.

  1. With the ignition switch OFF and the negative battery cable disconnected, pump the brake pedal a minimum of 25 times using approximately 50 lbs. of pedal force. When a noticeable change in pedal feel occurs, the accumulator is discharged.
  2.
  3. When a definite increase in pedal effort is felt, stroke the pedal a few additional times.
  4.
  5. If the job requires power while the hydraulic system is open, disconnect the wiring to the ABS hydraulic unit before connecting the battery cable.
  6.
