Power Antenna



Antenna Diagnosis & Testing
  1. Disconnect the electrical connector from the motor assembly.
  2.  
  3. Connect the circuits shown in the solid lines.
  4.  
  5. Check that antenna extends when the circuit shown in the dotted lines is connected.
  6.  
  7. Check that the antenna retracts when the circuit shown in the dotted lines is disconnected.

Removal & Installation

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the side trim from the trunk.
  4.  
  5. On a non-power antenna, unscrew the mast.
  6.  
  7. Carefully remove the ring nut from the fender top.
  8.  
  9. Detach the wiring for the electric motor and the antenna cable connection.
  10.  
  11. Remove the nuts and bolts holding the motor to the body, then remove the motor.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Install the new motor and tighten the mounting nuts and bolts.
  2.  
  3. Attach the wiring connectors for the antenna cable and the motor.
  4.  
  5. Install the ring nut and tighten it only to 3 ft. lbs. (4 Nm).
    NOTE
    This is little more than finger tight; do not overtighten this nut.

  6.  
  7. On a non-power antenna, install the mast.
  8.  
  9. Install the trim panels in the trunk.
  10.

  1. Remove the antenna ring nut and insulator. Raise and remove the antenna from the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Remove the trunk compartment trim to access the motor assembly.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the antenna feeder cable and electrical harness from the motor assembly.
  6.  
  7. Unbolt and remove the motor assembly.
  8.  
  9. Installation is the reverse order of removal.

Galant
1999-2003 Models

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

  3. Remove the side trim from the trunk.
  4.  
  5. On a non-power antenna, unscrew the mast.

  7. Carefully remove the ring nut from the fender top.

  9. Detach the wiring for the electric motor and the antenna cable connection.

  11. Remove the nuts and bolts holding the motor to the body, then remove the motor.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Install the new motor and tighten the mounting nuts and bolts.
  2.  
  3. Attach the wiring connectors for the antenna cable and the motor.
  4.  
  5. Install the ring nut and tighten it only to 3 ft. lbs. (4 Nm).
    NOTE
    This is little more than finger tight; do not overtighten this nut.

  7. On a non-power antenna, install the mast.
  8.  
  9. Install the trim panels in the trunk.
  10.  

Removal & Installation



1993-00 Mirage

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the antenna base retaining screws.
  4.  
  5. Lift the base and mast assembly up from the roof.
  6.  
  7. Detach the connector for the antenna.
  8.  
  9. The installation is the reverse of removal.
