Diagnosis & Testing
2004-05 Galant
  1. Connect the battery directly to the regulator terminals and check that the motor runs smoothly.
  2.  
  3. Connect terminal No. 1 to the negative (-) battery terminal and terminal No. 2 to the positive (+) battery terminal and the slider should move to the UP position.
  4.  
  5. Connect terminal No. 2 to the negative (-) battery terminal and terminal No. 1 to the positive (+) battery terminal and the slider should move to the DOWN position.

3000GT
  1. Connect the battery directly to the motor terminal and check that the slider moves smoothly.
  2.  
  3. Connect the battery in reverse polarity and check that the slider moves in opposite direction.

  5. Using an ohmmeter, check for continuity with the terminals on the back of the power window switch using the following connection table.

Diamante
  1. Using an ohmmeter, check for continuity with the terminals on the back of the power window harness using the illustration.

Eclipse And 1999-2003 Galant
  1. Using an ohmmeter, check for continuity with the terminals on the back of the power window harness using the illustration.
    1. Connect Terminal 1 to negative (-) and Terminal 3 to positive (+) battery terminal and the ohmmeter, on terminals 4 and 5 of the harness, should read less than 2 ohms.

  1. Connect the battery directly to the regulator terminals and check that the motor runs smoothly.

  5. Connect terminal No. 4 to the negative (-) battery terminal and terminal No. 1 to the positive (+) battery terminal and the slider should move to the DOWN position.

Removal & Installation
Motor & Regulator
3000GT
  1. Remove the door trim. Refer to -Door Lock Motor, Removal & Installation- in this section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the waterproof film. Refer to -Door Lock Motor, Removal & Installation- in this section.
  4.  
  5. Remove the inner and outer delta cover.
  6.  
  7. Remove the door belt line outer weatherstripping.
  8.  
  9. Remove the window up stop.
  10.  
  11. Remove the front and rear inner stabilizers.
  12.  
  13. Remove the delta sash.
  14.  
  15. Unbolt and remove the window glass.
  16.  
  17. Remove the window regulator assembly.

  1. Lower the door glass.
  2.  
  3. Remove the door panel and moisture barrier.
  4.  
  5. Using a non-marring tool and a cloth pad, gently pry the belt molding up and off the door.
  6.  
  7. Remove the inner glass stabilizers.
  8.  
  9. On front doors only, remove the glass guide slider.
  10.  
  11. Support the bottom of the door glass and remove the two mounting bolts holding the glass to the regulator. If the glass is not supported, it will fall into the door when the bolts are removed.
  12.  
  13. Remove the door glass by lifting it up and out of the door.
  14.  
  15. Remove the installation bolts holding the regulator to the door.
  16.  
  17. If equipped with electric windows, disconnect the wiring to the window motor.
  18.  
  19. Remove the regulator through the access hole in the door.
  20.  

To install:

  1. When reinstalling the regulator, apply a light coat of multipurpose grease to the moving parts.
  2.  
  3. Install the regulator and tighten the bolts finger-tight.
  4.  
  5. Beginning with the lower left bolt, final tighten the regulator retaining bolts and proceed in a clockwise pattern.
  6.  
  7. Connect the wiring to the window motor, if applicable.
  8.  
  9. Install the window glass. If the vehicle is a hatchback, tighten the rearmost glass mount first. If the vehicle is a sedan, tighten the front bolt first.
  10.  
  11. Operate the window a little bit at a time, checking the fit of the glass in all dimensions and all positions. The window should fit evenly in all channels and operate smoothly throughout its travel. Adjustment is generally not needed, and difficult to perform. If adjustment is necessary, remove the window regulator and elongate the mounting holes in the door. Before this measure is undertaken, check carefully for bent or damaged components.
  12.  
  13. Reinstall the moisture barrier and the door panel.
  14.  
  15. Connect the negative battery cable.
  16.  

Eclipse
1999 Models
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the door trim panel and waterproof film.
  4.  
  5. Remove the bolts, then remove the up-stops.
  6.  
  7. Remove the inner stabilizer.
  8.  
  9. Unfasten the retainers, then remove the delta sash.
  10.  
  11. Remove the retaining bolts, then remove the belt line molding.
  12.  
  13. Carefully remove the door window glass.
  14.  
  15. Unfasten the retainers, then remove the window regulator assembly.
  16.  
  17. If equipped, detach the connector, unfasten the retainers and remove the power window motor.
  18.  
  19. If necessary, remove the retainers, then remove the front and rear glass guide tracks.
  20.  
  21. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.

2000-05 Models
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the door grip cover and inside handle cover.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the power window switch and remove the power window switch panel assembly.
  6.  
  7. Remove the inner delta cover.
  8.  
  9. Remove the door trim panel.
  10.  
  11. Remove the door belt line molding.
  12.  
  13. Remove the door grip and grip bracket.
  14.  
  15. Remove the inside door handle.
  16.  
  17. Remove the waterproof film.
  18.  
  19. Remove the door delta sash.
  20.  
  21. Remove the door window glass.
  22.  
  23. Remove the power window regulator assembly.
  24.  
  25. Remove the power window motor.
  26.  

To install:

  1. Install the power window motor as follows:
    1. Connect the power window motor to the body-side harness connector, and then turn on the ignition switch.
    2.  
    3. Continue to pull the power window switch until the power window motor stops.
      NOTE
      Power window motor stops automatically and the limit switch incorporated in the power motor will be reset.

    4.  
    5. Turn off the ignition switch, and then remove window motor from the body-side harness connector.
    6.  
    7. Align the power window motor drive shaft and the square hole in the drum by the following procedure, while using the guide and the opening in the motor housing as a reference for the installation position.
    8.  
    9. Align the square hole with the drive shaft by sliding the glass bracket (glass mounting section) or by turning the drum using a ratchet wrench [with a socket diameter of 12.7 mm (0.50 inches)].
    10.  
    11. Turn the drum to position the glass bracket as shown in the illustration. Support the drum and the guide with your hand while turning the drum, otherwise the wires may pull out of the drum.
    12.  
    13. If the wires pull out of the drum, re-insert them by following the drum and regulator wire installation procedure.
    14.  
    15. Align the guide and the opening of the motor housing, and slide the guide into the motor housing while holding the guide and drum.
    16.  
    17. install the metal cover securely to housing.
    18.  

  2.  
  3. Install the regulator as follows:
    1. Place the drum, guide and regulator on a work bench.
    2.  
    3. Place the drum so that the square hole is facing upward.
    4.  
    5. Place the guide so that the slits are facing upward.
    6.  
    7. Place the regulator so that the glass bracket is facing downward. Position the glass bracket so that glass is in the fully-open position.
    8.  
    9. Pass the springs over the wires, and then install the lowering wire to the guide first, followed by the lifting wire. (The lifting wire should be on top of the lowering wire.)
    10.  
    11. Use some narrow-gauge wire [approximately 0.5 mm (0.02 inches) diameter] to compress the springs, and then tie the narrow-gauge wire a to the slits in the guide.
    12.  
    13. Insert the end of the lowering wire into the wire hole at the bottom of the drum, and then wrap the bottom so that there is no slackness in the wire.
    14.  
    15. Insert the end of the lifting wire into the wire hole at the top of the drum.
    16.  
    17. Raise the front of the drum until the drum is vertical, and then position the lifting wire in the groove of the drum.
    18.  
    19. Return the drum to its original position while holding the wires to make sure that they do not pull out.
    20.  
    21. After installing the power window motor assembly to the window regulator assembly, cut and remove the wires witch are compressing the springs.
    22.

  5. Install the window glass to the window regulator assembly.
  6.  
  7. After raising the door window glass as far as it will go, fully secure the door window glass to the door window regulator assembly.
  8.  
  9. The remainder of the installation is the reverse order of removal.
  10.  

Galant
1999-2003 Models
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the door trim. Refer to -Door Lock Motor, Removal & Installation- in this section.
  4.  
  5. Remove the door window inner weatherstripping.
  6.  
  7. Remove the door beltline molding.
  8.  
  9. Remove door window glass.
  10.  
  11. Remove the inner lower impact-absorbing core, front door only.
  12.  
  13. Remove the door window regulator assembly.
  14.  

To install:

  1. Install the door window regulator assembly.
  2.  
  3. Temporarily secure the door window glass to the door window regulator.
  4.  
  5. After raising the door window glass as far as it will go, fully secure the door window glass to the door window regulator assembly.
    NOTE
    When the door window glass is closed fully, the door limit switch will be reset.

  6.  
  7. The remainder of the installation is the reverse order of removal.
  8.  

2004-05 Models
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the door trim panel. Refer to -Door Lock Motor, Removal & Installation- in this section.
  4.  
  5. Remove the door beltline molding.
  6.  
  7. Remove the door window regulator assembly.
  8.  
  9. Installation is the reverse order of removal.
  10.  

Lancer
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Remove the door trim. Refer to -Door Lock Motor, Removal & Installation- in this section.
  4.  
  5. Remove the door window glass installation bolts.
  6.  
  7. Lift the door window glass, and attach special tool MB990480 to the glass to prevent the glass from falling.
  8.  
  9. Remove the window regulator assembly and power window motor assembly.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Install the window regulator assembly, and tighten the bolts in sequence as shown.

Switch
2004-05 Galant
  1. Insert Special Tool MB990784 trim remover to pry off the power window switch panel assembly.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the power window switch electrical connector.
  4.  
  5. Unbolt and remove the power window switch.
  6.  
  7. Installation is the reverse order of removal.
  8.  

3000GT
  1. Remove the door trim. Refer to -Door Lock Motor, Removal & Installation- in this section.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the power window switch electrical connector.
  4.  
  5. Unbolt and remove the power window switch.
  6.  
  7. Installation is the reverse order of removal.
  8.  

Eclipse And 1999-2003 Galant
  1. Remove the door trim. Refer to -Door Lock Motor, Removal & Installation- in this section.

  3. Disconnect the power window switch electrical connector.

  5. Unbolt and remove the power window switch.
