Stabilizer Bar (Sway Bar)

Fig. Remove the self-locking nuts from the stabilizer bar link

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Disconnect the stabilizer links by removing the self-locking nuts.
  6.  
  7. Remove the stabilizer bar mounting brackets and bushings.
  8.  
  9. Remove the bar from the vehicle.
  10.  
  11. Inspect all components for wear or damage, and replace parts as needed.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Install the stabilizer bar into the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Loosely install the stabilizer bar brackets on the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Align the side locating markings on the stabilizer bar, so that the marking on the bar extends approximately 0.39 inches (10mm) from the outer edge of the mounting bracket, on both sides.
  6.  
  7. With the stabilizer bar properly aligned, tighten the mounting bracket bolts to 28 ft. lbs. (39 Nm).
  8.  
  9. Connect the stabilizer links to the damper fork and the stabilizer bar. Tighten the locking nuts to 28 ft. lbs. (38 Nm).
  10.  
  11. Lower the vehicle and connect the negative battery cable.
  12.  

  1. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  2.  
  3. Remove the stabilizer link mounting nuts. Remove the stabilizer link.
  4.  
  5. Remove the stabilizer bar retaining bracket bolts and bushing.
  6.  
  7. Remove the stabilizer from the vehicle.
  8.  

To install

  1. Position the assembly on its mounting.
    NOTE
    Be sure to position the stabilizer identification mark to the left side. Adjust the identification mark position to approximately 0.04 inch on the bar.

  2.  
  3. Continue the installation in the reverse order of the removal procedure.
  4.  

  1. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  2.  
  3. Disconnect the stabilizer bar link retaining bolts. Remove the stabilizer link from the vehicle.
  4.  
  5. Remove the stabilizer bar retaining bracket and bushing.
  6.  
  7. Remove the stabilizer bar from the vehicle.
  8.  

To install

  1. Install the stabilizer bar to its mounting.
  2.  
  3. Continue the installation in the reverse order of the removal procedure.
  4.  

  1. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  2.  
  3. Remove the locknut. Remove the stabilizer rubber bushing. Remove the stabilizer link.
  4.  
  5. Remove the stabilizer retaining bracket bolts, and bushing.
  6.  
  7. Remove the stabilizer bar from the vehicle.
  8.  

To install

  1. Install the stabilizer bar to its mounting.
  2.  
  3. Align the identification color on the left side of the stabilizer bar with the right end of the bushing.
  4.  
  5. Continue the installation in the reverse order of the removal procedure.
  6.  

Evolution
  1. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  2.  
  3. Remove the stabilizer nut. Remove the stabilizer bar link.
  4.  
  5. Remove the stabilizer bar bracket retaining bolts. Remove the brackets and bushings.
  6.  
  7. Remove the stabilizer bar from the vehicle.
  8.  

To install

  1. Install the stabilizer bar to its mounting.
  2.  
  3. Align the stabilizer bar until the identification color of the stabilizer bar is out about 3.9 inches from the stabilizer bushing to the vehicle center.
  4.  
  5. Continue the installation in the reverse order of the removal procedure.
