Trailing Arm

Removal & Installation



  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle securely on jackstands.
  2.  
  3. Remove the wheel and tire assembly.
  4.  
  5. Remove the brake drum or rotor.
  6.  
  7. Remove the hub and bearing assembly.
  8.  
  9. Support the rear axle using a jack or other suitable device.
  10.  
  11. Remove the lower control arm-to-trailing arm connection.
  12.  
  13. Remove the upper link-to-trailing arm connection.
  14.  
  15. Remove the trailing arm-to-body mounting through-bolt and remove the trailing arm.
  16.  

To install:

  1. Install the trailing arm and install the trailing arm-to-body mounting through-bolt. Tighten the bolt to 72-87 ft. lbs. (100-120 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Install the upper link-to-trailing arm connection. Tighten the bolt to 65 ft. lbs. (90 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Install the lower control arm-to-trailing arm connection. Tighten the bolt to 65 ft. lbs. (90 Nm).
  6.  
  7. Remove the axle support device.
  8.  
  9. Install the hub and bearing assembly.
  10.  
  11. Install the brake drum or rotor.
  12.  
  13. Install the wheel and tire assembly.
  14.  
  15. Lower the vehicle.
  16.  

  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle securely on jackstands.
  2.  
  3. Remove the wheel and tire assembly.
  4.  
  5. Support the rear axle using a jack or other suitable device.
  6.  
  7. Remove the trailing arm-to-knuckle connection.
  8.  
  9. Remove the trailing arm-to-body mounting through-bolt and remove the trailing arm.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Install the trailing arm and install the trailing arm-to-body mounting through-bolt. Tighten the bolt to 99-114 ft. lbs. (137-157 Nm).
  2.  
  3. Install the trailing arm-to-knuckle connection. Tighten the bolt to 85-99 ft. lbs. (118-137 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Remove the axle support device.
  6.  
  7. Install the wheel and tire assembly.
  8.  
  9. Lower the vehicle.
  10.
