Removal & Installation

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:
    WARNING
    Never pull on the driveshaft or you risk damaging the joints. Only use a prybar to remove the driveshaft from the transaxle.



    Undercover
     
    Wheels
     
    Clevis pin
     
    Driveshaft nut, using and end yoke holder to hold the hub
     
    Washer
     
    Rear wheel speed sensor, if equipped with ABS
     
    Lower control arm, shock absorber, trailing arm and toe control arm connection
     
    Driveshaft. Use Mitsubishi Special Tools MB990242, MB990244, MB991354 and MB990767 to push the driveshaft from the hub.

  5. Use a slide hammer to remove the driveshaft from the differential carrier. Make sure the spline of the driveshaft does not damage the oil seal.

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    New circlip on the driveshaft
     
    Driveshaft into the differential carrier and hub
     
    Lower control arm, shock absorber, trailing arm and toe control arm connection
     
    Rear wheel speed sensor, if equipped with ABS
     
    New driveshaft washer, with the beveled edge facing out
     
    Driveshaft nut. With no load on the wheel bearings, use Mitsubishi special tool MB990767 to tighten the nut to 174 ft. lbs. (236 Nm).
     
    New cotter pin
     
    Wheels
     

  2.  
  3. Check and adjust the rear wheel alignment, as necessary.
