Oil Pan

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Drain the engine oil.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable
     
    Engine undercover
     
    Front exhaust pipe
     
    Oil pan drain plug and gasket
     
    Starter motor
     
    Engine oil dipstick and O-ring
     
    Lower oil pan. If necessary, use a block of wood and hammer to carefully dislodge the lower oil pan.
     
    Cover
     
    2 lower torque converter connecting bolts
     
    Upper oil pan. Screw the M10 bolts holding the oil pan to the transmission assembly into the bolt holes shown in the illustration to remove the pan.

To install:

  1. Before installing, thoroughly clean the oil pan and cylinder block mating surfaces.
  2.  
  3. Apply liquid gasket around the surface of the oil pan.
  4.  


NOTE
Assemble the oil pan to the cylinder block within 30 minutes after applying the liquid gasket.

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Oil screen. Torque the bolts to 12-16 ft. lbs. (16-22 Nm).

    Upper oil pan. Torque the bolts to 76 inch lbs. (8.5 Nm), in the sequence shown the illustration. The bolt holes for bolts 13 and 14 are cut away on the transmission side. Be sure you do not insert the bolts at an angle.
     
    2 lower torque converter connecting bolts. Tighten the bolts to 36 ft. lbs. (49 Nm).
     
    Cover
     
    Lower oil pan. Torque the bolts to 93 inch lbs. (11 Nm), in the sequence shown the illustration.

    Engine oil dipstick and O-ring
     
    Starter motor
     
    Oil pan drain plug with a new gasket. Tighten to 29 ft. lbs. (39 Nm).
     
    Front exhaust pipe
     
    Engine undercover
     
    Negative battery cable

  3. Fill the crankcase with oil. Start the engine and check for leaks.
  4.

    2 lower torque converter connecting bolts
     
    Upper oil pan. Screw the M10 bolts holding the oil pan to the transaxle assembly into the bolt hole shown in the illustration to remove the pan.

To install:

  1. Before installing, thoroughly clean the oil pan and cylinder block mating surfaces.

    Upper oil pan. Torque the bolts to specification and, in the proper sequence. The bolt holes for bolts 13 and 14 are cut away on the transaxle side. Be sure you do not insert the bolts at an angle.
     
    Two lower torque converter connecting bolts. Tighten the bolts to 36 ft. lbs. (49 Nm).
     
    Cover
     
    Lower oil pan. Torque the bolts to specification and in the proper sequence.

    Oil pan drain plug with a new gasket. Tighten to specification.

  6.  
  7. Connect the negative battery cable. On 2005-2006 vehicles, turn the ignition ON and then OFF , and keep it off for at least ten seconds.
  8.  
  9. Fill the crankcase with oil. Start the engine and check for leaks.
