Lower Control Arms

Bushing Replacement



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  4.  
  5. Remove the wheel.
  6.  
  7. Remove the lower control arm and place in a vise.
  8.  
  9. Using tools MB991963 and MB990890 remove the bushing
  10.  

To install:

  1. Position the bushing with the larger end facing the front of the vehicle.
    NOTE
    Coat the bushing with a soap solution and take care not to twist.

  2.  
  3. Using tools MB991963, MB990889 and MB990890, press the bushing into it-s mounting on the lower arm.
    NOTE
    When pressing in the lower control arm bushing, take care not to damage the lower control arm.

  4.  
  5. Install the lower control arm.
  6.  
  7. Install the wheel.
  8.  
  9. Check and adjust the front end alignment.
  10.  

Front Bushing
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the wheel.
  4.  
  5. Remove the lower control arm and place in a vise.
  6.  
  7. Using tool MB990883 remove the bushing
  8.  

To install:

  1. Position the bushing with the larger end facing the front of the vehicle.
  2.  


NOTE
Coat the bushing with a soap solution and take care not to twist.

  1. Using tool MB991522, press the bushing into the bracket.
  2.  
  3. Install the lower control arm.
  4.  
  5. Install the wheel.
  6.  

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Wheel
     
    Lower control arm mounting bolts and nuts
     
    Lower ball joint from knuckle
     
    Lower control arm

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Lower control arm
     
    Lower control arm retainers. Tighten the knuckle nut and bolt to 81 ft. lbs. (110 Nm) and the other retainers hand-tight only at this time.
     
    Wheel
     

  2.  
  3. Once the weight of the vehicle is resting on the suspension, torque the lower control arm mounting bolts and nuts 122 ft. lbs. (165 Nm).
  4.  
  5. Check and adjust the front wheel alignment.
  6.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.

  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Lower control arm mounting bolts and nuts
     
    Lower ball joint from knuckle
     
    Lower control arm

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Lower control arm
