Adjustment



The wheel bearings are not adjustable. If the bearings are noisy or become loose, they must be replaced.

Removal & Installation



The wheel bearings are not replaceable. If defective, the hub/bearing assembly must be replaced.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Tire and wheel assembly
     
    Cotter pin
     
    Driveshaft nut
     
    Washer
     
    Speed sensor, if equipped
     
    Brake hose bracket
     
    Caliper and rotor
     
    Front wheel hub assembly
     
    Dust cover
     
    Tie rod end
     
    Front strut-to-hub and knuckle mounting bolt and nut
     
    Hub/knuckle assembly

  5. Installation is the reverse of removal. Observe the following torques:

    Hub-to-knuckle bolts: 67 ft. lbs. (90 Nm)
     
    Hub nut: 174 ft. lbs. (236 Nm)

The wheel bearings are not replaceable. If defective, the hub/bearing assembly must be replaced.


NOTE
If the vehicle is equipped with ABS, do not strike the ABS rotors installed to the BJ outer race of the halfshaft against other parts when removing or installing the halfshaft. Otherwise the ABS rotors will be damaged. Be careful not to strike the pole piece at the tip of the front ABS sensor, as damage may result.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.

  3. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Tire and wheel assembly
     
    Cotter pin
     
    Driveshaft nut
     
    Washer
     
    Speed sensor, if equipped
     
    Brake hose bracket
     
    Caliper and rotor
     
    Front wheel hub assembly
     
    Dust cover
     
    Tie rod end, using the proper tools
     
    Front strut-to-hub and knuckle mounting bolt and nut
     
    Hub/knuckle assembly

  7. Installation is the reverse of removal. Observe the following torques:

    Hub-to-knuckle bolts: 67 ft. lbs. (90 Nm)
     
    Hub nut: 174 ft. lbs. (236 Nm)

  9. Check the front end alignment, adjust as required.
