Fuel Injectors

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Properly relieve the fuel system pressure.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Air cleaner assembly, ducts and air intake hose
     
    Intake manifold plenum
     
    Ignition coil connectors and coils
     
    Injector connectors
     
    High pressure fuel hose and O-ring
     
    Blow-by hose connection
     
    Fuel rail, injector and damper assembly, as necessary. Only earlier production vehicles will have a fuel damper.
     
    Insulators from the fuel rail
     
    Fuel injectors from the fuel rail
     
    O-rings from the injectors
     
    Fuel damper, if equipped

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Fuel damper, if equipped
     
    New O-rings and grommets
     
    Fuel injectors and insulators
     
    Fuel rail and insulators. Torque the bolts to 102 inch lbs. (12 Nm).
     
    Injector connectors
     
    Blow-by hose connection
     
    High pressure fuel hose and O-ring. Torque the bolts to 44 inch lbs. (5.0 Nm).
     
    Ignition coils and connectors
     
    Intake manifold plenum
     
    Air cleaner assembly, ducts and air intake hose
     

  2.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Properly relieve the fuel system pressure. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4.  
  5. Remove the fuel rail.
  6.  
  7. Remove the insulator from the fuel injector. Remove the fuel injector from the fuel rail. Discard the O-ring.
  8.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  2.  
  3. Be sure to use new gaskets and O-rings, as required.
  4.  
  5. Connect the negative battery cable. On 2005-2006 vehicles, turn the ignition ON and then OFF , and keep it off for at least ten seconds.
  6.  
  7. Run the engine and check for leaks, correct as required.
  8.  
  9. Adjust all fluid levels, as required.
