Fuel Pump

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Relieve the fuel system pressure.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable

CAUTION
The fuel injection system remains under pressure after the engine has been OFF. Properly relieve fuel pressure before disconnecting any fuel lines. Failure to do so may result in fire or personal injury. Do not allow fuel spray or fuel vapors to come in contact with a spark or open flame. Keep a dry chemical fire extinguisher nearby. Never store fuel in an open container due to risk of fire or explosion.



Left rear seat cushion and tie out of the way to the head restraint.
 

  1. Push on the floor mat to find the notches, then cut the carpet along the notches to access the service hole cover. Remove the service hole cover.

WARNING
When removing the fuel pump module from the tank, be careful not to damage the module unit and float.

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Fuel pump assembly into the fuel tank. Torque the nuts to 24 inch lbs. (2.5 Nm).
     
    Fuel lines
     
    Fuel tank differential pressure sensor connector
     
    Fuel pump module connector
     
    Fuel pump cover. Torque the bolts to 14 inch lbs. (1.5 Nm).
     
    Rear floor carpeting.
     
    Negative battery cable
     

  2.  
  3. Start the vehicle; check for leaks and proper operation.
  4.

  8.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Fuel pump assembly into the fuel tank. Torque the nuts to 24 inch lbs. (2.5 Nm).

    Fuel tank differential pressure sensor connector
     
    Fuel pump module connector
     
    Fuel pump cover. Torque the bolts to 14 inch lbs. (1.5 Nm).
     
    Rear floor carpeting.
     

  2.  
  3. Connect the negative battery cable. On 2005-2006 vehicles, turn the ignition ON and then OFF , and keep it off for at least ten seconds.
  4.  
  5. Start the vehicle, check for leaks and proper operation.
