Wheel Bearings

Adjustment



The wheel bearings are not adjustable. If the bearings are noisy or become loose, they must be replaced.

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Loosen the wheel lug nuts only12
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Wheel(s) from the vehicle
     
    Cotter pin, driveshaft nut and washer, AWD vehicles
     
    Rear ABS sensor, if equipped
     
    Caliper mounting bolts and use wire to hang the caliper aside. You do not have to disconnect the fluid line.
     
    Brake rotor
     
    Rear hub assembly

Rear hub assembly. Tighten mounting bolts to 67 ft. lbs. (90 Nm).
 
Brake rotor
 
Caliper and torque the mounting bolts to 45 ft. lbs. (60 Nm)
 
Rear ABS sensor, if equipped
 
Washer and driveshaft nut, AWD vehicles. Torque the nut to 174 ft. lbs. (236 Nm). Install a new cotter pin.
 
Wheels
 

  1. Road test the vehicle and check for leaks.
  2.  

The wheel bearings are not replaceable. If defective, the hub/bearing assembly must be replaced.


NOTE
If the vehicle is equipped with ABS, do not to strike the pole piece at the tip of the rear ABS sensor, as damage may result. The hub assembly should not be disassembled.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.

  3. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  4.  
  5. Loosen the wheel lug nuts only 1 / 2 a turn.
  6.  
  7. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Wheel(s) from the vehicle
     
    Cotter pin, driveshaft nut and washer, AWD vehicles
     
    Rear ABS sensor, if equipped
     
    Caliper mounting bolts and use wire to hang the caliper aside. You do not have to disconnect the fluid line.
     
    Brake rotor
     
    Rear hub assembly
