Torsion Bar

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Support the lower arm with a jack.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Heat protector, right side only
     
    Bump stopper
     
    Anchor adjustment nut and arm assembly
     
    Anchor collar
     
    Torsion bar
     
    Dust covers
     
    Heat covers, right side only
     

  6.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Heat covers, right side only
     
    Dust covers
     
    Torsion bar
     
    Anchor collar
     
    Anchor adjustment nut and arm assembly. Torque the nut to 32 ft. lbs. (44 Nm).
     
    Heat protector, right side only
     

  2.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2.  
  3. Support the lower arm with a jack.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Heat protector, right side only
     
    Bump stopper
     
    Anchor adjustment nut and arm assembly
     
    Anchor collar
     
    Torsion bar
     
    Dust covers
     
    Heat covers, right side only
     

  6.  

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:

    Heat covers, right side only
     
    Dust covers
     
    Torsion bar
     
    Anchor collar
     
    Anchor adjustment nut and arm assembly. Torque the nut to 32 ft. lbs. (44 Nm).
     
    Heat protector, right side only
     

  2.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the under cover and skid plate, if equipped.
  4.  
  5. Support the lower arm with a jack.
  6.  
  7. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Heat protector, right side only
     
    Bump stopper
     
    Anchor adjustment nut and arm assembly
     
    Anchor collar
     
    Torsion bar
     
    Dust covers
     
    Heat covers, right side only
     

  8.  

To install:

  1. Check the identification marks at the end of the left and right torsion bars (R= right side, L= left side).
  2.  
  3. When installing the torsion bar, align the white mark on the serrated section of the torsion bar with the mating mark on the anchor arm.
  4.  
  5. Mount the anchor bolt (see illustration) and install the rear anchor arm adjusting nut.

  7. Install or connect the following:

    Heat covers, right side only
     
    Dust covers
     
    Anchor collar
     
    Anchor adjustment nut and arm assembly.
     
    Heat protector, right side only
