    Adjustment

The bearings are integral with the hub. No adjustment is possible.

    1. With the caliper removed, check the rotational starting torque. Rotational torque should be 2.7-11.5 inch lbs. (0.3-1.3 Nm). Rotational torque can be adjusted by tightening or loosening the adjusting nut.
    2.
    3. Check the hub axial. Endplay should not exceed 0.002 inch (0.05mm). If adjusting nut tightening does not bring the axial play within specifications, the bearings must be replaced.
    4.
    5. Check hub endplay. Endplay should be 0.02-0.03 inch (0.4-0.7mm). Shims are available to adjust endplay.
    6.
    7. Install the hub assembly. Tighten the nut to 94-145 ft. lbs. (127-196 Nm). Loosen it completely. Tighten the nut to 18 ft. lbs. (25Nm), then back it off 30 degrees.
    8.

    1. Tighten the wheel bearing nut to 119 ft. lbs. (162 Nm) while turning the rotor.
    2.
    3. Loosen the wheel bearing adjusting nut completely.
    4.
    5. Tighten the nut to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm), then loosen the nut approximately 30°.
    6.
    7. Using a dial indicator, check the wheel bearing end-play. The specification is 0.002 in. (0.05mm).
    8.
    9. Install the locknut.
    10.

The bearings are integral with the hub. No adjustment is possible.

    1. With the caliper removed, check the rotational starting torque. Rotational torque should be 2.7-11.5 inch lbs. (4-19Nm).

    To install:

    1. Install the front hub assembly.
    2.
    3. On 4WD vehicles, use a spring scale to measure the hub rotary sliding resistance. Specification should be 2.7-11.5 inch lbs. If not within specification remove the lock washer. If the resistance is lower than specification, use tool MB9909954 to tighten the jamnut. If the resistance is higher than specification, use MB9909954 to tighten the jamnut. Install a dial indicator gauge and move the hub in the axial direction. Measure the wheel bearing movement. Specification should be 0.002 inch or less. If not within specification, remove the spring washer and use special tool MB990954 to tighten the jamnut. If adjustment is not possible, disassemble the hub and inspect each component.
    4.
    5. Install the lock washer.
      NOTE
If the hole position is not aligned with the jam nut, move it within a range of not more than a 20 degree angle, until the holes are aligned.

    6.
    7. Install the drive flange, shim and snapring.
    8.
    9. On 4WD vehicles, push the halfshaft in by hand towards the knuckle until they touch. Measure the clearance between the drive flange and the spacer. Specification should be 0.02-0.03 inch. If not within specification select and adjusting shim that will bring the halfshaft end play within to specification.
    10.
    11. Continue the installation in the reverse order of the removal procedure.
