Coil Springs

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  4.  
  5. Support the rear axle assembly with a hydraulic floor jack, so that the shock absorber may be removed.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the lower shock absorber retaining bolt.
  8.  
  9. Position a jack under the lower arm assembly. Compress the coil spring to remove the lower arm retaining bolt.
  10.  
  11. Lower the floor jack and remove the coil spring from the vehicle.
  12.  
  13. Remove the spring upper and lower pads.
  14.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  2.  
  3. Torque all retaining bolts to specifications.
    NOTE
    Bolt torques are indicated in the illustration. To prevent the bushings from breakage, the parts indicated with an asterisk (*) should be temporarily tightened, and then fully tightened with the vehicle on the ground in the unladen condition.

  5. Check the rear wheel alignment.
  6.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.

  3. Support the weight of the axle.
  4.  
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Breather hose
     
    Parking brake cable attaching bolt
     
    ABS speed sensor attaching bolt
     
    Brake hose connection
     
    Lower shock mounting bolt
     
    Bolt that attaches the lateral rod to the body
     
    Stabilizer bar
     

  6.  
  7. Lower the axle and remove the coil spring and seat
  8.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  2.  
  3. Torque all retaining bolts to specifications.
    NOTE
    Bolt torques are indicated in the illustration. To prevent the bushings from breakage, the parts indicated with an asterisk (*) should be temporarily tightened, and then fully tightened with the vehicle on the ground in the unladen condition.

  5. Be sure to bleed the brakes. Fill the master cylinder with the proper grade and type brake fluid.
