Lower Control Arms

Bushing Replacement



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the wheel.
  4.  
  5. Remove the lower control arm.
  6.  
  7. Using tool MB991522 press out the bushing
  8.  

To install:

  1. Position the bushing with the larger end facing the front of the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. Using tool MB991522 press the bushing into the bracket.
  4.  
  5. Install the lower control arm.
  6.  
  7. Install the wheel.
  8.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Remove the wheel.
  4.  
  5. Remove the lower control arm.
  6.  
  7. On Montero, use tool MB990881 to press out the bushing.
  8.  
  9. On Montero Sport, use tools MB990881, MB99097 and MB991318 to press out the bushing.
  10.  

To install:

  1. Position the bushing with the larger end facing the front of the vehicle.
  2.  
  3. On Montero use tool MB990881 to press the bushing into the bracket.
  4.  
  5. On Montero Sport, use tools MB990881, MB99097 and MB991318 to press the bushing into the bracket.
  6.  
  7. Install the lower control arm.
  8.  
  9. Install the wheel.
  10.  

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  4.  
  5. Support the rear axle assembly with a hydraulic floor jack.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the lower shock absorber retaining bolt.
  8.  
  9. Position a jack under the lower arm assembly. Compress the coil spring to remove the lower arm retaining bolt. Lower the floor jack and remove the coil spring. Remove the spring upper and lower pads.
  10.  
  11. Make mating marks to the bracket and the camber adjusting bolt. Remove the camber adjusting bolt.
  12.  
  13. Remove the lower control arm assembly from the vehicle.
  14.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  2.  
  3. Torque all retaining bolts to specifications.
    NOTE
    Bolt torques are indicated in the illustration. To prevent the bushings from breakage, the parts indicated with an asterisk (*) should be temporarily tightened, and then fully tightened with the vehicle on the ground in the unladen condition.

  5. Check the rear wheel alignment.
  6.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.

  3. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  4.  
  5. Support the rear axle assembly with a hydraulic floor jack.
  6.  
  7. Remove the parking brake attaching bolt.
  8.  
  9. If equipped with ABS, remove the speed sensor attaching bolt.
  10.  
  11. Remove the lower control arm retaining bolts. Remove the lower control arm from the vehicle.
  12.  

To install:

  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
  2.  
  3. Torque all retaining bolts to specifications.
    NOTE
    Bolt torques are indicated in the illustration. To prevent the bushings from breakage, the parts indicated with an asterisk (*) should be temporarily tightened, and then fully tightened with the vehicle on the ground in the unladen condition.
