Upper Control Arms

Removal & Installation



  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2.  
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Shock absorber lower bolt
     
    Lower arm mounting bolt
     
    Coil spring
     

  4.  
  5. Installation is the reverse of removal. Torque the lower arm bolt to 113 ft. lbs. (152 Nm).
  6.  

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2.  
  3. Drain some brake fluid from the master cylinder, as required.
  4.  
  5. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  6.  
  7. Disconnect the brake hose connection. Remove the clip.
  8.  
  9. Remove the rear wheel speed sensor retaining screws.
  10.  
  11. Remove the bump stopper. Remove the stabilizer link and upper arm assembly connection.
  12.  
  13. Remove the upper ball joint cotter pin and locknut.
  14.  
  15. Using the proper tools, separate the upper ball joint and knuckle connection.
  16.  
  17. Disconnect the connection of the DOJ assembly and the companion shaft assembly.
  18.  
  19. Remove the upper arm assembly and rear frame connection mounting nuts and bolts.
  20.  
  21. Remove the upper control arm from the vehicle.
  22.  
  23. As required, remove the upper ball joint from the upper control arm assembly.
  24.  

To install:

  1. Position the upper control arm assembly to its mounting.
  2.  
  3. Install the upper control arm retaining nuts and bolts.
  4.  
  5. After installing the upper arm, tighten the connecting bolt of the DOJ assembly and the companion shaft assembly to 74-94 ft. lbs.
  6.  
  7. Continue the installation in the reverse order of the removal procedure.
  8.  
  9. Check and adjust the rear wheel alignment.
  10.  
  11. Bleed the brake system. Fill the master cylinder with the proper grade and type brake fluid.
