Removal & Installation



Engine Coolant Temperature Gauge
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2.  
  3. Drain the engine coolant to a level below the gauge unit.
  4.  
  5. Unplug the sensor connector, then remove the engine coolant temperature gauge unit.
  6.  
  7. If necessary, test the sensor as outlined earlier in this section.

To install:

  1. Apply Semi-drying sealant: 3MTM ADD part No.8731 or equivalent to the threads of the water temperature gauge unit, and tighten to 10-12 ft. lbs. (14-18 Nm).

  3. Fill the engine with the proper type and amount of engine coolant. Check for leaks.
  4.  
  5. Connect the negative battery cable.
  6.  

Testing



Engine Coolant Temperature Gauge
  1. Drain the engine coolant
  2.  
  3. Remove the engine coolant temperature gauge unit.
  4.  
  5. Immerse the unit in 70°C (158°F) water to measure the resistance and compare with the accompanying chart. Standard value:104 ± 13.5 ohms.

  7. If within the standard value, the sensor is OK. If not within the standard value, replace it.
